I received a letter and a check today 08-08-08 in the amount of $3900.00. The letter states that I won 39,000.00 and that they have tried to contact me on May 29, 2008, but failed to contact me. The letter says this is a final notification. I was told when I receive the money to contact Alannah Welsh or Rob Black. I tried to contact them, but was told they won't be in till tomorrow and to call back at 10:00am. Also I was told not to tell the public until my claim has been finalized. I read a few comments from other people that received the same letter and check just as I did. If this is a scam I hope that these people are found and arrested for fraud. I say shame on people like this for letting people think that they won something and they didn't. Someone needs to do something about this, cause people are having it rough now a days and to get someones hopes up like that is just plan wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with this check, cause I don't want to deposit it then get arrested for something that I thought I won. I will be calling these people back and I want a sraight answer from them. I will let them know that they are scamming alot of people and see what they have to say. Also was anyone's check from The Huntington National Bank. If I don't get a straight answer from these crooks I will take it to my bank along with the letter and see what they can do. I would like to hear from anyone else that has received the same letter and cashier's check. Once I get my anwser I will contact the FBI. I look for those scammers out there and then I report them to the FBI and NCI.

Get real. Of course it's a scam, and if you deposit/cash the check, you're going to have to pay for it in more ways than one.

You don't know what to do with it? Here's an idea:

CALL THE FBI. Give the check and any other information you have about these jerks, including phone numbers, letters, emails, etc. to the FBI.

I would not call them back. Why tip them off? Report it to the FBI and turn over all information/documents to them. IF you're fool enough to call them, they're gonna tell you it's legit and that you need to moneygram/western union them XXX dollars to cover insurance, taxes, processing or some other bullshit.

Ask yourself this: How can I win something from a contest/lottery I didn't enter????

Mary...

You arent the first nor will you be the last to get one of these. I dont understand why there is ANY cause here to believe this is real in any way? Why would you think for even a minute that this check was legit? WHY are you bothering to call the number/person listed in the letter? Do you think they will be intimidated by you? That you'll say to them something a thousand other people havent said? That by some miracle YOU will scare them into stopping their scamming ways? Your bank isnt going to do ANYTHING other than tell you it's a scam and to toss the check.

Until people check their GREED these scammers will continue to mess with em. Check out some of the web sites set up to alert people to these things. The scammers from Canada and places like Nigeria etc LOVE LOVE LOVE Americans. They say we're easy to scam because we're the only country in the world whose people EXPECT something for nothing. They claim we are a fat and lazy nation of people who do not want to work and yet expect.........fully EXPECT to be handed everything.

I find the whole thing sad sad sad........yet it plays out day after day RIGHT here on RoR where people fall.....time and time again for these scams
