We bought a KERO-WORLD Model KW-11b kerosene heater.

We followed directions to the letter. Clean, clear, fresh 1-k kerosene was used.

After 8 hours of use the who house reeked of the smoky odor of unburned kerosene. This heater, in my opinion, does not allow enough air to reach the base of the flame! The air inlet holes around the collar at the base are very small, they are few and far between!

I have a TURCO HERITAGE KEROSENE HEATER. The unit is exceptionally clean burning with a nice blue flame. The flame on the KERO-WORLD is yellow (indicating insufficient oxygen to the flame) and NO ADJUSTMENT can be made to make the flame clean burning.

I have sent this information to the Consumer Product Safety Commission; they have come to investigate my complaint. They have come to no decision yet (as of 11/5/03)

My suggestion: BEFORE YOU BUY ANY KEROSENE HEATER, ANYWHERE, TAKE ALONG SOME CLEAN 1-K KEROSENE AND INSIST THAT YOU TRY IT OUT BEFORE PURCHASING IT !

Go to a harware store FIRST. They will let you try it out. If you can buy the heater cheaper somewhere else (like a discount store) and you like it, tell the hardware store that you are comparing models and will make a decision after you've tried others. If the heater is a clean burning one. The hardware store ought to be USING it to save heating bills and to demonstrate it to prospective buyers!

Don't let anyone tell you that ALL kerosene heaters smell. That is a mis-truth. There are models which burn as clean as the expensive forced air models.
