World Talk Calling Cards (distributed by Ambe Sports Card, carrier D.P. Corp) claim to have the lowest worldwide rates per minute. What they don't tell you is service charges eat up half the card's cost.

There is an upfront maintenance charge of 75 cents a month, but they don't tell you about the activation cost every time you use the card to dial a new number if you hang up and use the card again.

Where the card is bought determines how many actual calling minutes you have (e.g. if you buy a $5 card in the caribbean you supposedly have several "hours" of talking time to the U.S.; take the same $5 card to the same place you called in the U.S. and you may have a maximum of 15 minutes (all under the same carrier, Dollar Phone Corp.).

There is also the possibility of buying a card where the PIN number isn't recognized by the automated voice, at which case you are just left hanging, which means you have to call customer service. Oh, as for customer service, THERE IS NONE! You call the CS number (1-866-876-6125) and all you get is a busy signal (probably took their phone off the hook from so many complaints about lousy phone card service).

World Talk cards may have been a good deal at one point, but now that deal is no more. You're better off getting a cellphone with a steady carrier and CS because a $5 or $10 deal is not worth the hassle.
