WPME.net They stole my money! ripoff Internet

I checked the balance of my BB&T checking account online on April 21, 2004 and I saw a charge to my Checkcard (Visa) for $9.95 from this WPME.net that occured on April 20, 2004. On the detail line of the charge the phone number for this "company" was also listed. I knew that I never purchased anything from WPME.net since I keep careful records of all my accounts.

I phoned my bank and reported the charge and my bank closed my checkcard. They will investigate but the clerk on the phone acted as if I probably bought something and forgot about it. She wouldn't believe me when I assured her that I did not do any business with WPME.net.

I am NEVER using my Checkcard for any purchase on the internet from now on. I don't know how this WPME.net outfit got my number, since I rarely use the Checkcard at all. This is the first time I've ever been scammed and I'm glad I caught it quickly and I'm relieved it was a small amount. The scam companies are hoping you won't notice a charge of $9.95 until it's too late, and Checkcard Visas don't have the same safegurads or protections as standard credit card.

I also checked out this WPME.net's website, and it's a bogus company. They have one phone number that is a voice mail system and it's never answered and messages are never returned. I e-mailed the contact given several times and never received a response. The area code for the company is 501 and that turns out to be Arkansas from some checking I did, although on the charge to my bank statement the company listed NY next to the name, as if they are in New York.

I want to report these losers to every authoritiy I can think of. I think it's rotten that they can get away with stealing money and that the banks may have to "eat" the cost. This is why bank service charges end up being so high. The customer pays for it in the end.

Check all your bank statements carefully for bogus charges and report them to your bank immediately.

FBI is taking this very seriously

The FBI has a website devoted to complaints about Internet Fraud. Anyone who has been ripped off by WPME.net or their alias companies can go to: www.ifccfbi.gov and file a detailed complaint. It sounds like the FBI is taking this very seriously.
