Three young guys showed up in a Budget Rent a Truck (not a company truck) they were over 2 hours late. One of them dropped an expensive picture I had while he was carrying it off the truck. The frame, glass, and print were all damaged. I received a compensation check for $40.29. The cost of repair is estimated at $200-$300. The limit of liability in the moving contract is $.60 cents/pound. This means that if you have an expensive item damaged, your compensation is based on weight, not the value of the item. I tried several times to resolve this to a "fair" settlement amount, but the owner of the company hide behind his contract that I signed and invited me to sue him in court. The mover was negligent and unsafe in his action by carrying multiple pictures in both hands between his fingers off the truck. This act directly resulted in my damaged picture which was dropped on the concrete. There was also another picture damaged that I did not notice until two weeks later, it was hidden between some boxes in my garage.
