i would truely like to know if it is against the law to charge someone for a product or service they don't have or need. first off i am being charged for a phone line that i don't need because i use my cell phone. comcast told me that my bill would be higher if i cancel the phone line (bs). second, i am being charged to rent their modem/wifi unit because they said my modem which i spent good money for, was the problem for slow internet speeds. theirs is no better. third, i have never gotten their advertised internet speed that i am paying for at any time of the day or night.

i was paying for their internet blast which they boast a 150 mb/s download speed and was still buffering at times. when buffering i would check the download speed to discover a whopping 6 mb/s. they sent more than one tech, each one said the line was good (woopie)but left with no explanation. fourth but surely not last the poor tv they offer for their prices. the glitching, no sound and picture canceling issues are ongoing and i think last for me is the wait time to get an agent on the phone only to be lied to in the end.

Calm Down..

The best thing I can tell you to do is Calm Down and take a Deep Breath.

You actually have zero proof that Walmart had anything to do with this.  Yes, Walmart was the last place you used your card before this happened, and it as a Walmart store that it was used at.  Coincidence..Yes...proof No.

Let me give you an example that happened to me a few months ago.  I had made a purchase at a very popular location, within about 15 minutes my card was used at another unrelated store about 6 hours away from where I was.  Sound familar?  Now, was there somehow some huge criminal enterprise that hacked into this companies payment system, pulled out my number only to then go attempt to buy $200 worth of art supplies in another city?

The point...It could have been some fraud on the part of someone associated with the store.  But it could also be a case where your card could have been compromised, hours, days, or even weeks before and it just happened to be a coincidence that it was at that point and time.

Very common ways are "skimmers" at various Gas Pumps or ATM's where there is time for a person to install a device that captures the card information off of the magnetic strip when it is swiped.  This is specifically what the Chip cards are to avoid...which is another reason it is unlikely to of occured because of Walmart.   It could be someone video taping secretly and captured your number and happened to see you enter your PIN as well.

Oh and by the way, I to this day still use my card at this location and (crossing my fingers) have yet to have another fraud incident since.

As for the fraud.  While I know you want "closure" and to have them spend every minute of their day investigating this horrible act upon your account until the crook is captured and strung up by their fingernails.   In all honestly, stores build this sort of fraud into their budgets and unless there is something extremly definite(such as you saying..yes I know it was Person A, they live at XYZ Avenue) they really aren't going to spend a lot of time chasing down these smaller hits.  Not because they don't care, but because the manpower and effort is more costly than trying to catch someone...and again in all  honestly would not result in the crook giving the money back.  Now, if they happen to start noticing a trend or some odiities that are pointing them in a certain cause...that is where they will spend their effort.

Also, if BofA is handling it there is a concept of "Too many cooks in the kitchen".  If they are handling it and you continue to force Walmart into it this may actually DELAY you being able to get your money back.   So realizing it hasn't even been a single business day(this happened on the weekend)  I would continue with BofA and let them handle any of the investigation.

Bundled Services

First off they are not forcing you to keep any service you don't need or want.  However, they do have the right to price services in such a way that when you "bundle" the phone with another service it becomes cheaper.   So yes you can cancel the phone, but they could then charge you more for the Internet.

Since they are a Utility they are regulated by just about every State, and these rates are all approved by your State's Public Utility Commission(or similar agency).

As for the speed.  If you are truly only getting 6mb/s then there is probably something wrong.  But it depends on how you are testing.  To get a true idea of speed you should connect the Modem directly into a Computer via a Network Cable.  Then go to a site such as Speedtest.net.  This is the best approximation of your true speed.  If it is higher than the 6mb/s, your issue is not the cable line but something in your network which in most cases is YOUR responsibility.

As for the "boost", that isn't a constant speed of 150mb/s.  That generally only "kicks in" during periods of huge downloads, in average use you will not see that speed.  Instead you will see your regular download speed.

Then as for your old modem, if you still have it find out what is the specs and max speed.  If it is more than a couple of years old(regardless of how much you paid for it) it is likely that it can't get the maximum download speeds available today.

One final item, the speeds they promise are DOWNLOAD speeds, upload speeds can vary and will  most likley be significantly less.

I'm not defending them or telling you that you just have to deal with it. I am just giving you a few of the details around the situation.
