In Texas we have a State Sales Tax. Also a local taxing enity may add additional tax as Sales Tax. I live in an unincorporated area of a County. This area only has the minimum State Sales Tax. XM Satellite Radio is charging me the State Sales Tax and a Local Sales Tax, which it is not authorized to do. I have spoken with them and also written to their corporate offices in Washington. They merely state they have to charge State Sales Tax and will not address the issue of charging the Local Sales Tax that I am not subject to. I am withholding the Local Sales Tax waiting for them to cutoff my service for non-payment of the bill.

They are not the only ones who have charged a Local Sales Tax that doesn't exist. AT&T did the same thing and were forced to stop when they lost a Class Action suit.

A lot of other companies overcharge for the Sales Tax, but usually a phone call will straighten it out.

Everyone might start checking your charges as this is a good way for companies to collect illegal income.
