XP Antivirus XP Antivirus 2008 intruded into my computer saying I had 400 some spyware&trojan and other viruses Internet
This XP Antivirus is intruding into my computer and saying I have viruses and if I pay $50.00 dollars for a license they will clear out the intruders I don't know how else to stop them except to report their intrusion. I think they are the intruders and just want to hold me up for $50 bucks.
My Windows has pretty good antivirus programs. I don't know if there is anything else to add to this. But their pages keep popping up and interfering with my use of my computer, and most of the time I have to turn off the computer to shut them down because their "x" box doesn't respond, and delete the page. It is harassment with a vengeance! They have popups that say for instance.
"Warning! Threats detected!"
I am not very computer savvy, but this is ridiculous, irritating and wasting my time. My son has been a techie and told me that XP Antivirus 8000 is the intruder and is trying to scare me into buying their license.

This came from the ones who are pushing the XP Antivirus. Antivirus programs will not remove this spyware, unless you a premium package such as Symantec or McAfee. It's unlikely you have that many viruses, it is only BS to get you to purchase something that DOES NOT work. Do not purchase this softeare because I can almost guarantee they are scammer.
There are 3 ways of dealing with this issue.
(1) Purchase a real spyware program such as Webroot Spy Sweeper (and there are others), which is about $30 a year on the web and run that. This is what I have on my computer and is top-notch. Don't fall for the free sypware removals on the web because they are just as bad as the XP Antivirus because they function similar to the spyware you have because they produce the same problems. Nothing you can get for free on the web relating to spyware removal works as good as the legitimate ones you purchase, like the ones I listed above.
(2) Take it to a technician to remove it (they will charge you much more than the $30 because they will use a spyware removal program, which you will then have on your computer and will probably be good for the entire year)
(3) Remove it yourself (but you say you're not computer savvy). This is probably one of the least alternatives because these things are hard to locate to remove unless there is some website which provides instructions, which I could not find through my search engine.
(4) Do nothing. However, this spyware will never go away until you take some sort of action

Actually, it doesn't. The fact that you have this latest rogue "antivirus" program on your computer proves it. It is very likely that you have other "nonsense" on your machine as well.
If you search for "xp antivirus removal" you'll find some webpages that will tell you how to remove this "rogue" software. However, to really get rid of it, some registry entries need to be edited and this is very dangerous (to your marchine) for most laypersons to attempt.
So, the safer method for you to get rid of this is for you to purchase a "real" antivirus software - better yet a security suite.
Anyone who is on the internet should (IMO) have at a minimum, 3 security programs running on their system; antivirus, antispyware, and a personal firewall.
There are several internet security suites out there. I use McAfee, but you could use any of the several that are available.

IF it is a pre-installed package - you can remove it! First thing is to identify the package causing the pop-ups. Does it present a name? If it does...
