Found Xtreme Buildres through the Home Improvement Network for remodel/addition of our home that we are living in. I am an electrician and could have been my own general, but wanted to avoid the hassle. Our project began on 6/21/2005. The first few days seem to go well, other than several equipment problems. We were happy they were there and doing the work.

However, it did not take long to see we were not getting the job we thought we would. Precautions were not taken during demolishion and several things were damaged. Daily cleanup did not occur - ever! Items were stored on site for months after being used, such as forms and extra material.

Tarps were not used to protect our home when the roof was removed, until we demanded them. Then, only part of the remodel/addition was covered. The plywood sheathing was finally placed on the roof on August 19. We had to wait another month for the shingles to even arrive. Once they arrived, we had to wait almost another month for the underlayment and shingles to be put on. Then waiting weeks for a skylite so the roof could be completed. Now we find out that the lifetime metal roof was improperly installed and needs to be removed and reinstalled for a price of almost $10,000.

The garage slab was poured too high, was pitched backwards, the surface was uneven. We had to have it replaced and Xtreme refuses to stand behind their work and pay for the replacement costs as well as additional concrete work that should have already been done by Xtreme.

We do not know what subs were used, and if they have been paid. We have already paid Xtreme in excess of $190,000 and the exterior finishes are not even complete. Some of the subs have contacted us telling us they have not been paid and are threating to place liens on our home.

There are so many things that have to be corrected or were not completed, but were already paid for. We believe we would have to spend almost $60,000 to get the project up to the point it should be at to fall in line with the payout schedule. We are really stuck now trying to finish the project for the amount remaining on Xtreme's contract, finding our own subs, and resolving any issues with unpaid subs.

By the way, Xtreme's business phone and fax have been disconnected for about a month now.

Is Extreme Still in Business?

#4Consumer Comment

I've noticed for some time that Extreme Builders is no longer listed in the yellow pages in either Streamwood,Il or Schaumburg, Il. Could it be that Extreme Builders has gone out of business after all?

I wish to state the following facts regarding the comments made by Dan of Des Plaines, IL. First of all, the following is true:

Xtreme Builders has been paid $180,000. This money was paid in 7 installments over a 4 month period. Money was received upon critical completion points as per the contract.

Dan states in his complaint that the roof took an inordinate amount of time for completion. However, Dan neglected to state that these delays were the direct result of the materials that he selected. These materials could only be obtained from an out of town supplier. He also has taken exception to the quality of installation of this roof. He neglects to state that the installation was under the supervision of the supplier and met with their standards. A warranty was issued by the supplier upon final inspection.

Dan goes on to complain about the garage slab being too high. Industry standards call for at least 3-1/2" pitch over 33 feet. Dan wanted the pitch to be 1-1/2". He further neglects to state that the slab was redone at a 4" pitch.

The project stopped at 70% completion. All exterior work was completed (except for the siding). There were four village inspections, of which the project passed all four.

I find it interesting that Dan was satisfied with the quality of each phase of this project - which resulted in further completion and further payments. The issue of quality only was raised when money became and issue. They told me that they ran out of money and applied for a loan to complete this project. We worked for approximately another month in good faith. At this time, upon requesting payment for work performed - this issue of quality of work was raised. Dan has used the issue of the roof as an excuse not to follow through on the payments that are owed.

The posting on this web site didn't appear until after a lien had been put on their property by Xtreme Builders. I'd like to point out that Dan did promise to pay what was owed for work performed. However, he was unresponsive to our attempts to collect. Only at this time, did I have to resort to putting a lien on the property. In addition, I'm well aware that my subs have also put a lien on their property. This was with my knowledge and approval.

Dan's comments about Xtreme Builders are false and it's unfortunate that he's using this medium
to "slam" my company, when in fact, he's not willing to take responsibility for agreements that he's entered into. In addition, he is confusing people by stating that my phone number has been disconnected, when in fact, we are very much in business.

I would like to clarify at this time Dan's comments regarding my affiliation with Momax. I was a sub contractor of Momax until he stopped making payments to me for work completed. Issues regarding Momax was never quality of work, but rather, follow-through on projects. He walked away from contracts and pocketed money from homeowners. This has nothing to do with Xtreme Builders. I was a victim of his disception as well as the numerous homeowners. This was to the tune of $30k. I feel I'm also a victim of people like Dan.I entered into my contract with him in good faith. I continued to work after payments were deliquent - also in good faith. If they didn't have the money to complete the job - they just should have been honest!!!!!

Xtreme Builders/Tom Blonski - Momax Saga Continues Even Now! Streamwood Illinois

#4Author of original report

I discovered some horrifying information today while searching this site. I learned that Tom Blonski with Xtreme Builders was responsible for a lot of the shoddy work of Momax by reading some of the reports on Momax.

I was going to hire a lawyer, but now I am seriously reconsidering this decision. I am sure if Tom has been doing this as long as it appears I will never get any money out of him. It appears that I have found myself in the same situation that Momax victims are in and really don't know what to do. I am curious if any of the law suits are going after Xtreme and why they are still in business.

This is so depressing. Why are these crooks allowed to get away with this? It appears to me that some laws need to be changed so that the homeowners have more protection. I would love to hear what some of the Momax vicims have done to get out of their dilemas because I just don't know what to do.

In the meantime I am filing all the necessary reports and hope to shut this guy down! I am also going to write to my local paper and try to get the word out.
