My daughter signed up for a free trial offer that came in her mp3 player box. Yahoo requires a valid credit or debit card for the "free" trial. You must cancel no later than one day prior to the last day of the trial period or they will charge your credit/debit card with a nonrefundable charge. They advertise a monthly service but don't tell you that it is paid a year in advance.

The service is so crappy that it began malfunctioning almost immediately. It was not compatible with VISTA. My daughter attempted numerous times to cancel her trial but the service kept "booting her off" after she clicked on the link to cancel. She kept trying and soon after, her service simply ceased functioning so she mistakenly believed that her cancellation was complete and deleted the program from her computer.

Several days later, her bank notified us that her account was in arrears with 3 bounced charges totally $75 in penalties. Upon checking, we discovered that Yahoo charged her for a full year. As she did not expect this charge, it took all of her funds, causing a s****.> So here we are, Yahoo cannot fix the problem and they will not refund her money. As far as I am concerned, they are nothing but a rip~off and they couldn't care less. In fact, smugness was the attitude. I informed them that I would post complaints online anywhere I was able to, that I would email everyone I know to email everyone they know & so on... AND that both of my kids would post on facebook and myspace the details of this shabby customer "service" and how lousy the service is (songs won't play, won't transfer to the mp3 player, won't download, etc) so that college campuses across the nation would hear about how crappy it is. I also sent an email to the mp3 player's PR department advising them that offers of a free trial to Yahoo being included in their box IMPLIES complicity or at least approval of this shoddy service. Thus far, I have received no responses.

If something like this happens to you, go to your bank, file a complaint for UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES, submit as much evidence as you possibly can, including on line complaints found, and wait... That's what I did and the bank is refunding her money and backcharging Yahoo.
