I own a 2003 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado with only 8700 miles on it. On October 29th 2009 I was riding along at aprox.50 mph, when I heard a clink sound and 5th gear was gone just as if I put it in neutral. I went online to the forums and found that there have been many Roadstar owners who have had this same problem. Some have been repaired by Yamaha and others have not. I was told that a recall had been done in Dec.2004 and if it was proven that it had actually been done that Yamaha would pay to fix it.That was on friday. Now on Tuesday I am told by the dealer that the rep said not to fix it as it was under a 1 year warranty only and now Yamaha is not liable for fixing it. Even the dealership said that Yamaha should fix it because it doesn`t have very many miles on it and it is obvious that it is a Yamaha defect. I have been trying to contact the customer rep at Yamaha in California but she won`t even take my call or return my call. I feel that I am getting the runaround from Yamaha and I don`t have the money to fix it (being on a fixed income) which means I am left with a useless motorcycle I can`t ride or even sell. I need help with this situation. Please
