Well my husband and I were at the mall going to a movie.. Well the UTA system said that by the time the movie was over we could take the 55 bus back to campus but it had already quit running for the day. So, we called the cab company and they said it would be $6.00. for the whole trip. Well we told him where to take us. Then we get home and he said that would be $8.00. so we gave him 10.00 and told him to keep the change.

Well, the bad part of the whole thing was the fact that he took us the long way to charge us extra money that we didn't really have, but we still had to pay them. So we gave him the 10 cause we didn't want to wait in his car while he dug for 2 dollars for our change.

They need to quit lying to customers no matter how much money they want or need.

You're Always Going To Have

You're always going to have customers like this. If there had been a bad accident and the cab got stuck in traffic for two hours with the meter reading $15, they'd still say, "But you quoted us $6". They'll spend $20 to go to a movie and more on munchies, but when it comes time to pay the driver, that's another story. It always amazes me when they throw in, "we don't have much money", but they just came from a movie.

Whenever a potential cab customer calls and asks for a price from one point to another the price quoted is ALWAYS an estimate. There are no flat rates in Ogden, Utah. Our company is regulated by the city and we must charge what the meter says. If someone was quoted $6.00 and the actual fare turned out to be $8.00 that is not a very far off estimate. If the quote was $6.00 and the fare turned out to be $15.00 I could see the concern. An estimate is an estimate and some dispatchers are better at estimating than others. Our drivers are instructed to always take the shortest and best route. I also wonder why after feeling they had been ripped off they would give the driver a $2.00 tip. It would only have taken seconds to get their change.

Regarding the fare quote...

If they run a meter, it is based on time and distance. Therefore I'm sure that the quote you got when you called the cab co was stated as approximate. One long red light caught aright at the yellow to red can cost you almost 2 bucks sitting still.

A cab driver avoids red lights, and can go 2-3 blocks out of the way instead of sitting at one and actually save you money!

I drove a cab in Vegas for more than 4 years and also dispatched and started and ran 1 company of 24 cabs.

Remember that a quote is an estimate, unless your cab is operating in a flat rate or zone system.

We used to hate to get bus people in our cabs. It was always a problem. Stick to the bus so you can get a guaranteed rate.

You have Got To Be Kidding Me

You got into a cab and expected the driver to know the exact distance from whewre you were to your destination. Sounds like the only mistake the driver made was to give you his best guess as to what the charges would be. You were lucky to even get one that spoke english.

The rates are per mile and if you are so sure he took the long way around then contact the company and the authorities and file a complaint. You weren't ripped off and you should not be posting this complaint here.

Grow up and get a life........
