I took my baby to the YMCA holsclaw center. When I first signed him up I had to fill out a huge packet and they asked me to sign thigs. While my baby was there he was sick all the time. Catching "viruses" finally one virus was figured out it was Hand, foot and mouth desease. I called the daycare on a monday to tell them my 6 month old baby had been running a fever and wouldnt be in daycare that day. I had never heard of hand, foot and mouth desease. I told them I thought he had another ear infection. Never did they bother to tell me that desease was going around at the daycare so on friday when I took him back when I thought he was fine they told me he coundnt enter the day care because he had sores in his mouth and that desease was going around. I immediately took him back to his doctors and they confirmed he indeed had that deasease. Whent hey said that he couldnt enter the daycare because of a desease he cought there they also gave me a bill 4 times the amount of what I originally pay because he has not been there so they were charging me for holding his spot! I spoke to the director of the daycare and she very rudly said that there was nothing she could do about it even though I had all the hospital and doctors paperwork saying that he was out because of something he cought there. The still wanted me to pay so he could go back and keep getting deseases there.

When I took him back the friday he wasnt allowed in I took a doctors note saying he was clear to return to day care. I say parents beware. I have looked into all the infections that my son has gotten while being at that daycare and they all lead to unsanitary conditions at a daycare. They do have webcams that you can watch your child throught but you cant hear whats going on. They turn off the lights through out the day and let your babies cry for a LONG time. Any body know where I can report centers like these. And shouldnt it be against the law for them to charge you triple the amount of money when your baby is out sick?

All daycares no matter where they are, have or will have infectious diseases running through them at some point or another.

headlice, chickenpox, hand&mouth (also known as thrush) are present in most of society, and are easily transmittable in a daycare situation.

I've been a parent for 25 years, and have had BOTH of my children in YMCA Holsclaw, as well as other daycares. They both have been exposed to all the typical childhood diseases. It is not probable or possible to completely keep any child in a daycare free from exposure.

Parents work & put their children in daycare even when they have a runny nose = we all know we shouldn't, but we do.

pox, lice, thrush, whatever do NOT necessarily show up immediately and in such an obvious manner as to be able to get a notice out to everyone RIGHT THEN, to allow parents notice of it, and to choose to keep their kids home..

All daycares also reserve the right to charge a parent for a full week, even IF the child is sick part of that time = it IS outlined quite clearly in the Parent Handbook, several of which even *I* currently have = more than happy to dig them out and show you which page it's on.

Your complaint details a certain type of billing that leads me to believe that DES daycare subsidy is in place = you need to get with your DES caseworker to clarify that.

Webcams in daycares are a new technology in the past few years and I've YET to see a daycare with streaming audio AND video = that technology is available, but is PROHIBITIVELY expensive. Not to mention most if not all workplace situations will disallow streaming audio on desktop workstations.

My suggestions to you are the following ==
*get with your DES casework about how daycare is charged and how absences are charged. It's a fact of life when you put your child in daycare in order to work, that you may be "out" some money if your child is ill (and they are NOT responsible for reimbursement of money if your child gets sick "because of them".. It just doesnt' work that way)

*get with other daycares in Tucson and ask pointed questions about notifications of communicable diseases and how they handle quarantines, notices, absence requirements, etc.

The fact is, this daycare center is probably the NICEST one in the downtown metro area. Trust me = I've seen some that would make your skin crawl. It's clean. the directors are FANTASTIC, the employees are GREAT, and THEY ALL care about the kids in their care.
