I was considering an internet advertising provider for my 1 man business. I was talking with a national co. Yodle, but YP called several times and I met with a local guy. He told me that they offered the exact same services and price as Yodle. Trying to keep business local I decided to give him a try, he faxed me 1 piece of paper that said $320 a month, which I signed and faxed back. A week later I received a 15 page document set which talked about all of their products from Yellow pages, white pages, etc. which I was told I didn't need to read b/c I wasn't asked to sign it. After a month or more the 90 clicks on my website and phone ringing wasn't happening, so I began tracking and printing everything to look at performance. The YP rep had told me in writing it would cost $2000 a month to do what another Yodle customer I mentioned was doing. I eventually called Yodle and was told it would cost $200 a month. He called a few days later and gave me a great 3 month package , so I took it. First of all he was right $200 a month on Google and I was performing on Google better that the competitor I was trying to compete with, Yodle had great service and called and made recommendations. When I tried to break it off gently with YP, I didn't really get much info for a week or two, until I finally figured out that in the fine print, you had to go to a website to find out you had a 1 year contract! I have contracts from Yodle ( 1 page, states amount and term of 3 months clearly) and a sample from another (states 3 months clearly). There are communication breakdowns, no follow ups, I certified mailed all of my problems to them and YP didn't accept the package. I tried calling their toll free customer service and received the run around. YP locally was going to have their manager call me that day- which went on for weeks. I complained to the BBB, took them a while to find out which office handled the Birmingham office complaints; turned out to be Atlanta, who showed over 1000 complaints for the same problems I am having in the past 3 years. Someone from YP called from an office up north , to say he was looking in to it, but I haven't heard back. Meanwhile, they are still running my ads, I assume they will turn me over to a collection agency. I don't feel like I should pay for deceptive contract problems, deceptive contract issues, and not delivering on what was promised or even following up and trying to explain why it didn't work or why I wasn't getting clicks, or why I was told they were as good as Yodle, but Yodle is giving me more by far, and listens to me, even makes suggestions.
