Zafar Iqbal Jat , a naturalized U.S. Citizen from Pakistan, told Suffolk police his business, John's Gas and Grocery, was invaded by three masked, gun-toting white men at 1:15am yesterday.
He said the intruders abused him with anti-Arab slurs, then torched the place. But confronted by detectives with inconsistencies in his story, Jat, confessed that he had set the fire himself.A police source said that his motive appeared to be a wish to get rid of an unsuccessful business.The fire was put out by the Lindenhurst Fire Department and caused about $10,000 damage.Jat was held in custody for arraignment today on charges of arson and falsely reporting an incident, Suffolk police said."
*Mr. Jat also gets repeatedly "injured" on the job and gets workers comp and creates lawsuits. Please beware before you deal with him ... get good insurance ... you will need it. He will try to get a job as a laborer/worker with a contractor and then "slip-and-fall" on site. He seems to feel that ins. fraud is his meal ticket in the U.S.
