On December 8, 2002,my fiance purchased an engagement ring from Zales, Montebello, in California. My fiance told the manager that we wanted the ring in 14k yellow. He paid $1879.21. He

propsed to me on December 10, 2002. I was happy and engaged with a beautiful ring. A week later the gold started to rub off. I thought I was crazy or blind. But, it was rubbing off and very visible.

December 29, 2002, he took back the ring and showed the manager. He said, " I will order you a new one. It looks like my jeweler gold plated it." We waited for two months for the ring to come

back. We called weekly to find out the status and delivery date. We called the corporate office and all they did was three way us to Zales in Montebello. As if we haven't been doing that. I also
emailed them several times and received no response.

Corporate told us to hold on and you will have a beautiful ring. Today, Februaury 27, 2003, we called the store and my ring was in. The same manager instantly brought out the ring, still in

the manufacture's plastic bag. In the bag was the amount Zales was charged for the ring. The price said $850.00. We bought it for $1879.21. How much of a mark up price is that? It wasn't

beautiful. It had scratches on it. I asked for cloth to see if I could wipe it off and he handed me a paper napkin and then a paper towel. I thought the paper towels were for the glass

counter tops and not their quality diamond ring. I returned it and received a full refund but, I feel I should be compensated for this. I received an engagement ring. That's the day every

girl looks foward to when they are young. My ring was beautiful for a little over a week then the gold started to rub off. The so-called diamond store is a rip off. They are misrepresenting

their merchandise and writing fraudulent papers. At no time did they apologize for what I am going through. It said 14K yellow. It did not say 14K gold plated/sprayed. I feel I should be

compensated with a better quality engagement ring and I feel it should be a bridal set. Zales has no customer service let alone quality jewelry. I will not stop writing different advocacy and

consumer complaints on this. I am still engaged, I just don't have the ring to show it but, I know it. I just hope no one has to go through what I am going through....engagement ring rip off.

I completely understand your dissatisfaction with the quality ring that your fiance recieved from Zales! I too recieved a flawed engagement ring from my boyfriend who bought it at none other than Zales.

The diamond was cracked all the way down the middle. I have to be extra careful when I swing my hands because I want the diamond to stay intact when I go to pick up my replacement. I don't want them to charge me for their poor quality glass they pass off as diamonds.

When I noticed the cracked diamond, I went straight to Zales prepared for the salesmen to try to get me to buy something more expensive. At first he looked at the diamond in a way that he would not be able to see the crack to its fullest. He would not listen when I told him to turn the ring to see the crack.

He looked at the center stone, stated that there was just a cloud in it, gave me a lecture about all the types of diamonds there are in the world and how all diamonds have flaws, then cleaned the ring so that it sparkled like new. After he noticed the dissatisfied look on my face, he said that because Zales values their customers, he would replace the ring or let me look around to see if there was anything else that I liked.

I looked around for rings that closely matched the price of my original ring, but to no avail. I did find a beautiful engagement set, however I repeatedly told him that it was not in my price range. Of course, I think salesmen feed off of women who go into their jewelry stores without a second opinion next to them. The ring was on layaway in a matter of minutes (which I laugh about all the time).

The truth is, right after I walked out of Zales, I walked straight to the jeweler across the mall and got a 2nd opinion. They confirmed the diamond was cracked. I became angry. Although I love the ring that I have on layaway, I think that as a customer who already payed for my ring I deserved some honesty so that I could have just persued the warrenty on the diamond.

You payed good money for your diamonds! I'm glad that you got your money back even though you rightfully deserved a quality engagement ring because like you said, it's one of the highlights of a young woman's life to be engaged and show off your ring. I'm sure that your $1200 would be more appreciated at another jeweler who will give you a choice of more beautifully set rings. Good luck to you!
