Went to zig's pub and grill which also has bowling. We had just come from dinner and wanted to have a fun night out. This is the 3rd time we had been to zigs and we were making it a regular thing each week. After spending over 40 dollars on bowling, a few hours later me and the rest of my party got thirsty. We went to the bar to get pop for everyone. When trying to pay the 3 dollar bill with my credit card we were told we had to spend at least 10 dollars if i wanted to use my card. I explained that they were in violation of there credit card contract by imposing a minimum and that wasn't allowed. She said "thats what we do here" in a nasty tone. I explained that if they were going to refuse my card i would be reporting them to visa, ect. She said "go ahead" The nerve!

Then i began to tell the lady that we had just spent over 40 dollars on bowling in the other room. She wouldn't look at me and walked away.

So i took her advice and reported them to visa, ect. and also reported them here.

Aside from all this the other lady in the bowling area. An older lady. Was very rude when we paid for bowling. She was very short with us and had a "leave me alone stop bothering me" tone going on. Thank goodness we only had to talk to her twice.

Neither of these people were working the last 2 times we came. It was a guy who was very nice and treated us the way a customer should be treated. I think he may have been the owner. The credit card issue didn't come up before as we had cash the other 2 times.

In any event we will not be back. Thats no way to treat your paying customers!

By the way im in sales. I also accept credit cards on a daily basis. If all the rest of us have to pay the fee's on small amounts and follow the rules why should guys get away with it.

I'm happy you reported them to VISA. It *is* a violation of their agreement. From VISA's own website, http://www.usa.visa.com/about_visa/ask_visa/index.html#anchor_4

it says "Minimum Purchase

Visa merchants are not permitted to establish minimum transaction amounts, even on sale items. They also are not permitted to charge you a fee when you want to use your Visa card.

If you run into a problem like this with a merchant, please notify the financial institution that issued you your Visa card. These institutions have access to the appropriate Visa rules and regulations and can help you document and file your complaint. You'll find their address and/or telephone number on your Visa statement. Their telephone number may also appear on the back of the card itself. "

So you might want to also report them to your bank or wherever you got your VISA card from, to be sure that the complaint is handled properly with the right documentation and so on. Plus, it'll help to have your bank doing the butt-kicking and heavy lifting, instead of just little old you.

You're absolutely right about the fees for accepting VISA cards, too.... everyone has to pay them. These guys shouldn't be able to get away with violating their merchant agreement.
