Complaint Review: Zippy Shell

In December of 2021, my partner and I moved cross-country to be near his family. 1-800 Pack Rat seemed to be the only company that could do it, but they told us they had to switch our pod to their partnering company Zippy Shell, in Kentucky, in order to get it to us. They charged us over $5000, but we were just happy to get that part of our move done.

We had made it to our house, but our pod kept getting delayed. A representative told us it had been sitting in the warehouse the entire time. Red flag number one.

It finally showed up and the key didn't fit in the lock. It was clear the lock had been changed. My partner's dad, luckily for us, came and cut it off. The delivery men did nothing. Red flag number two. 

I had tied several bundles of rope throughout it, getting in spaces a normal person would not fit. It had been quite a while since seeing our pod, but while unloading, my partner speculated there seemed to be less rope. Red flag number 3.

Over the next several days, as I unpacked, I noticed things were missing. Things that were inside containers that were closed back up. Boxes were missing, valuables and mementos from my dead mother and grandmother were gone. Priceless items that we now had to put a price on in our claim.

Over one move, I had nothing left of them.

It's been 9 months of dealing with this, of hundreds of calls to Zippy Shell. Each time, they pretended to be empathetic and assured us they were working on finding the thief. A manager even said they'd found something on one of the cameras. We were hopeful someone had been caught, and even if we'd never see our items again, justice would be served.

This week, we received an email from the company. They declined our claim. They were not taking responsibility for our missing items. They were disregarding our $10,000 pod insurance and offering us $250. 

What a sad attempt to buy us off. 

Please, please don't use these companies. Don't let this happen to you. We will never get our stuff back. We will never get our time back. All we got was stress and heartache.
