Our perfect visit to Costa Rica ruined by one person!

A couple of weeks our group (3 persons) booked the boat taxi service from Montezuma to Jaco Beach with the company Cocozuma Traveller. To our surprise, an Italian who was identified as Ivan Rutter ZumaTours owner, approached us on the beach asking us our tickets, they were given, Ivan immediately told a series of lies: that Cocozuma Traveller was a fake company, that they do not existed, that we had been scammed. That what we had to do was pay again but to Ivan, to ZumaTours if we were to take any boat. Because of its great capacity to convince and we were very frightened by this situation we agreed to pay to Ivan again for a service we all ready pay.

To our surprise once we were at the ZumaTours boat, away from the beach we saw the Cocozuma Traveller Boat heading towards the beach, company which according to this big liar and con man told us do not exist.

We could not externalize our discomfort and claim anyone once we arrived to Jaco Beach as all Zuma Tours personnel disappear. In the center of Jaco we went looking for ZumaTours office and surprise! they have no office in Jaco.

We did found Cocozuma Traveller office, we tried to explain our situation and the receptionist was not surprised, he mention Ivans been doing this lately, as he is not capable to handle a good competition.

That we were just another victims of the lies and deceptions of Ivan Rutter Montezumas con man!

I hope this report will help others to not let this professional thieve ruin your vacation.

This ripoff report is likely a fraud that was uncovered on TripAdvisor.com in a lengthy forum that was taken down, probably because of its suspicious nature. The poster also posted on Fodor's, and Fodor's also took down the "complaint". To see what's left of this risible accusation, you can visit this link:

The person who probably posted this "ripoff report" is on a campaign to discredit and defame Mr. Ivan Rutter, owner of ZumaTours and a reputable businessman. The person who probably posted this "ripoff report" is a disreputable "tour operator" named Humberto Gonzalez who is actively cybersquatting ZumaTours with his website "ZumaToursGroup[.]com" and engages in multiple trademark and copyright infringements.

The Ripoff Report should also consider taking down this "complaint", intended to smear the reputation of an honest businessman. The motive behind this attack seems to be purely based on personal animosity. Humberto Gonzalez used to work for ZumaTours and left as a disgruntled employee, vowing to wage "internet war" against ZumaTours' owner, Ivan Rutter. This "internet war" has consisted of nothing but unethical and unlawful tactics, including but not limited to posting false accusations against ZumaTours.

For full disclosure I will say that I am a third party who is a close observer of the tourism industry in Montezuma, Costa Rica, and that I know both parties involved. Humberto Gonzalez has been denounced as a scam artist repeatedly on many travel forums, and here's just one example:
