National Human Trafficking Hotline Refused to Help Human Trafficking Victim
This organization claims to be interested in helping victims of human trafficking. They are not. I called them because I personally know a victim of human trafficking. Rather than take my complaint or reach out to the victim, the person on the other line implied I was bad for reporting this incident without permission. I ended up telling the operator she had no authority over me.
I ended up calling the local police and FBI, who dealt with the matter as those involved had extensive legal matters on other issues and mental health problems to the point of violently attacking people. This organization takes government money and grants and then basically gaslights people who report human trafficking. It’s terribly appalling.
The operator at one point gave me some social justice bullsh*t on why would I report human trafficking to the authorities? That only the victim should initiate the report. This is garbage as anyone can report a crime that become aware of. I reported this to the local police who says they would immediately send someone over to investigate.
The staff at National Human Trafficking Hotline need retraining. It is definitely not their replace to discourage reporting. Not in an era of rising crime and much greater awareness of trafficking.
