Hired Recast Inc for remodeling and home improvement. Signed contract on 5/27/21. The project duration was approx 4 months. Wrote a check for $21,382.50 upon signing. First few months, they came regularly, but as months went by, they came sporadically.

Some weeks, they never came. Other weeks, they came only once or twice in few weeks. I paid more than $210K from May 21 -Aug 22, but the work didn't get finished. Contacted Recast 8/22/22 and said that I've been patient with them and have worked around their workers' schedule.

Chris, the owner called me back and started yelling over the phone. He notified that he is ending the contract whether I agree or not. My opinion about their workmanship and my request to complete the job did not matter to him. He said he will give me the credit in full, which is the remaining balance of $4,691.25.

I suppose to pay Recast UPON FINISHING the JOB. I told him that I do not want any credit. I rather have them finish the work as promised. He agreed to see me face to face. He came to my house 8/25/22, we went over the punchlist, and I reminded him of their promise and the work needs to be completed.

Chris dominated the conversation in aggressive, rude, and hostile manner. I was hurt when he made sarcastic remarks. He forced me to sign the form. I told him that I am not ending the contract. Recast needs to install a heat pump in the attic (850sq ft), high hats, 3 storm doors, and verbal agreement with Scott Machenzie for the basement work, and others.

Recast installed a brand new Navien unit and passed the inspection. After the inspection passed, they installed a fire-resistant utility door AFTER the inspection. They completely disregarded the regulations for service clearance space and installed a fire-resistant door away from the unit. If the unit needs service; it is impossible to work around the unit because there is no space needed for servicing the unit.

He compelled me to sign without a chance to review what he wrote on the form. Chris read the puchlist and I signed the form acknowledging the punchlist. A few days later, he emailed me a copy. It says, "Clent has been informed of the terms of this agreement-signature is not required."

I have NEVER signed to terminate the contract as Chris claims. I signed for the punchlist that we went over on 8/25/22. The owner dismissed me and claimed that I agreed to terminate the contract by signing it. Why would I do that when I paid so much money to them, and they still have a lot of work left to do! He can't end the contract unilaterally!

THIS IS UNLAWFUL because I NEVER AGREED TO END THE CONTRCT!!! In addition, the owner lied to me that installing a split unit in the attic is illegal because attic shouldn't be finished & livable. He argued that he didn't know the attic was used as a bedroom. He notified me that installing a split unit in the attic bedroom is illegal and he can't let his workers performing any illegal work.

I explained that after my daughter got married, the attic has been used as a storage space. Chris said that he checked with the building dept and his subcontractor that installing a split unit is a building code violation. He argued that he didn't know the attic was being used as a bedroom. This is complete lie.

He went up to the attic multiple times while my daughter used it as her bedroom. When I signed the original contract in May 2021, he told us that that we did not have to move out during the renovation. My family can live in the attic until the completion of the second floor and that's exactly what we did! All of sudden, Chris changed his promises and say that Recast cannot install a heat pump because we ae using it as a bedroom.

The attic was finished when we bought this house and we changed the floor from carpet to laminate floor, but after my daughter moved out, the attic HAS NOT been used as bedroom. I checked with the plumbing inspector and spoke with the building inspector, they all said that it is legal and perfectly okay to install a split unit as long as it is not being used as a bedroom.

However, it did not matter what I said, Chris refused to install a unit that he promised. Not only that, Recast promised that the project cost is locked, but later, they asked for more money for the flooring job, and we had to comply. Recast was not honest about the cost of materials.

Yes, they did a few extra works such as putting plywood in mom's small closet storage and my son's small closet storage, but I replaced them with laminate floor because the plywood his worker put in did not cover the whole area. My family has been suffered for many months of delay.

We still have issues with their electric work, but they do not send their subcontractor who did the electric work to fix the issues. Chris accused me that I am being unreasonable, but he is the one not keeping the original contract by refusing to complete the project.

Please be aware of this company. They try to gain your business by promising a world to you.  Once you sign a contract, they ask large payments by stages, and intentionally, they leave extremely small amount of payment/balance towards the end. Now I know why they did that. I paid more than $210,000 for home improvement project and only $4,691.25 balance left to pay upon completion of their work.

After Recast Inc received most money from us, they tried to dismiss the contract. There was so much work left to do, but they refused to complete the project that they promised to finish. The solution they offered was terminating the current contract with them and hiring someone we like to complete rest of the project.

The owner of the company, Chris said that we don't need to pay the remaining balance to them. The remaining balance of $4,691.25 is more than enough to finish the job they couldn't finish. Please do the math and see if the remaining balance would be enough to cover for materials and labors for the following items Recast didn't complete.

They did not install a 36K BTU Mitsubishi heat pump, high hats, CO in the attic, an Anderson storm door, two regular storm doors, floor staining job, install doorknobs, install water faucet, fix the navien fire-resistant door for serving clearance space, bunch of other punchlists, fix constant electric issues that we are dealing with, etc.

Recast tries to end the current contract with us unilaterally! I never agreed to end it. Why would I end the contract when there is still so much work left to do AND I paid so much money already?

Recast plays a game that once they get most of your money, they will try to end contract with you. Be careful!
