Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I worked as caretaker at Stephens County Humane Society for two years! I've kept quiet about the abuse, and the cruelty that I've seen for far too long and because I was warned that if I said anything about it, I would regret it! But this is disgusting, sick and borderline psychotic! If you are easily offended by stories about cruelty to animals, don't read this report, because you will be pissed off by the time you get through this report! People would also be shocked to learn that the Duncan Police Department is involved as well as the Stephens County Sheriff's Department! They are covering up what really happens to unwanted animals! And they've been doing it for several years! I worked with cats mostly, cleaning their kennels, giving them food, water, and anything else they needed. I was always kind and gentle to the cats. Even if I got clawed which happened on a few occasions. So it's needless to say that I did become friends with a few of them! Another caretaker who could have cared less about the cats did a piss poor job and liked to poke at the cats with a stick! He thought it was funny to watch them hiss and groan at him! So I mentioned this to the shelter manager and the shelter manager told me to ignore it, he's doing a good job! But I couldn't! I couldn't stand the fact that he was abusing these animals and no one cared but me! We had quite a few cats dumped at the shelter when I worked there. The really disturbing part isn't how they were treated, it's what happened to the unwanted cats! A police officer pulled up in a SUV once to supposedly take the cats to another location. The make caretaker asked where the officer was taking them and the police officer said "Target practice", and smiled. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Did he mean that he was going to use kittens as targets? I was totally helpless in that situation! There was nothing I could do, but watch as he loaded the kittens in an SUV and shut the door! As he drove off, I began tearing up! I hoped he was joking, but something told me he wasn't! Some of the cats at the shelter are euthanized due to old age, or disease. But some are also euthanized just because homes can't be found for them and no one adopts them! That's very disturbing to me! If you've ever watched a cat be put to sleep, you know what I mean! People bring unwanted cats to the shelter thinking that we'll find people who will love them and care for them! That's simply not the case at all! The Stephens County Humane Society will hold on to stray cats for maybe a week, and then get rid of them. They tell people that they're going to be sent to another shelter, but they aren't! They are killed! Shocked? But how they're killed is the extremely disturbing part. Some are given shots and then they are driven to deserted areas of a town where a lot of semi-trucks are known to travel. They are let out on highways and county roads between the hours of 11 pm and 4 am. Usually they are found dead the next day. No one knows who the cats belonged to, and it's assumed that the cats belonged to someone who lived near that highway. So no one ever asks questions. One of the caretakers got drunk and was talking about he how watched as a semi-truck ran over one of the cats as he let the cat go on the highway! He said it looked like a rag doll as it got hit, and it's blood splattered on the highway! The Duncan Police sometimes did the dirty deed of getting rid of the unwanted cats and kittens! A sheriff's deptuty named Matt (I forget his last name) used to load cages of stray cats and take them to God knows where ,and did God knows what to them! Usually the cats are found dead on highways and roads. When someone tells the police or sheriff's deputy that there's a dead cat on the highway, they simply go clean it up, and no-one questions anything! So if you have a stray or unwanted cat that you care about, and you don't have the time, money or means to take care of it, find a friend, family member or neighbor to give it to, because if you take it to the Stephens County Humane Society and animal shelter, that cat will either be killed in a very cruel way, or it will be euthanized! Just the facts!

Just a few questions

Just read your report and I have a few questions. Was the deputy that you mentioned named Matt Peck by any chance? Do you know if there were any surveillance cameras at the Stephens County Humane Society? When did the deputy pick up these cages of cats? How often? If the deputy was named Matt Peck, did he ever pick up dogs in addition with cats? There is a cold case that is currently being investigated involving this former deptuty, and any information you can give would be appreciated. Thank you.
