I understand what you are saying. I did go on the interview and I wouldnt have taken the job if I did not know what I was in for with the business and business and door to door sales. I sold certificate packages. Things have changed in the last 2 years. All the managers there would always threaten my job if I had an off day. He would curse me out and if I couldnt attend a 930 P.M. leaders meeting they threatened my job. I talked to a guy who worked in home improvement a little while ago and he said the same thing that he had been written up by the police for illegal sollicitation as well. The problems I had were that they never told me I would have to drive other people around, and that we never were legally working in those areas. They poke fun at peoples races and religions and I couldnt survive on 9 dollars a card.

I was originally going to come on here and file a report against US Airways for being the worst airline ever, but I got to searching and I came across this. I used to work there 2 years ago, and I do agree with some stuff you wrote, I think it's pretty unfair to claim everything you wrote. My story is as follows: I started there and just like you stated, I went on a full day interview. The thing is, you get to see the B2b sales and residential sales on that interview, so it's not like Doug is hiding anything when he does the interviews. I can't tell you how many comapanies I interviewed with that never told me anything and sure enough, by about the 3rd interview they'd have me watch a video and ask for money, but that's a whole 'nother story. I agree they take almost anyone, but then again, if you ran a sales company, the more reps you have in the field, the more money you make. The reason turnover is high is because the managers always said, " Give everyone a chance." But there were people in our office going to the movies all day and playing pool instead of going to the field, so they would ream all of us leaders out for not "manging our people". I just wish those people never would've been brought aboard in the first place, but obviously more reps equals more $$ for the company. Once, you are there for 3 days or so, you know this though, it's not a secret or anything. I disagree about the dishonesty thing though. My first day, the manager explained that I was an Independent Contractor and said to save my receipts and that I would pay taxes at years' end. ( I actually got to write off mileage, meals, retrains, etc....I made around $500-$600 and after my write-offs I only had to pay $211 for my taxes for my 4 months in the field). I had a hard time moving up there though because my girlfriend and I were going to get married and she was 4 months pregnant when I started, but Doug never said, "Hey you suck" or "I am going to blow you out." I will never forget it, he'd always say, "It's your business, do what you you have to do." Of course it was said with a little bit of sarcasm, but that's the way he was. He always told us he was more Bill Belicheck than Mike Tice....I know some nights I was so pissed at him, but I have had WAY WAY worse bosses. At least Doug was very upfront about what he wanted out of me.... Anyways, I eventually burned out, but when I quit, I told Doug and he actually wasn't pissed at all. He just said the timing was wrong due to my current marriage and baby-on-board situation. He wrote me a 2 page letter of recommendation and it helped me get my next job so that was cool. In the last 2 years, I've gotten married and my wife is pregnant again. I am now working at a P.R. place where my hours are cushy, but I make next to nothing. I actually learned a lot working there, and Doug even took me to a few basketball games cause the team was our client, and he's the only boss that ever WANTED to meet my family, probably cause my wife thought I was cheating on her at the time because I worked so much. But still.. I know I was bitter too for about 3 months after I quit and I was upset about certain things, but looking back, it just wasn't for me...I get too pissed at people that tell me "no", but I also (now 2 years removed) don't think it was because the company is at fault. After 3 days there, you know how everything works and they are very open about it. The business model obviously works for people that are right for it, I even saw 2 guys get promoted and go open up offices when I was there. I just think the business (sales and recruiting) and especially the LLLOOONNNGGG HOURS aren't for everybody. People get burnt out and quit, and then blame the manager or the company. I just chalk it up to it not being for me, that's all....Hope this helps, if it's for you great, go run offices, if you're like me and you want to be home for your kids lives, then it isn't, but make your own judgement
