Your story reminds me of a dumb incident I brought upon myself 5 years ago. I hired a local contractor to rip-off, resheet and re-roof a house I own. I didn't take sufficient time to really check out who I was dealing with. D'oh! How dumb! . Starting day, very warm early spring. I had four guys on the roof, shirtless, all bearing prison tattoos. Uh-oh! Not a good sign. Things looked even worse when the county sheriff's department pulled into the driveway a couple of times and I'd be down to one worker 'till the law left. . Horrible job! Fired the contractor four days into the job. Had to go to another contractor, hat in hand, to straighten out the mess. . Then the vandalism started. Suffice to say it was extensive. I was prepared to shoot to kill. . Several months later, I happened to read where the company owner was busted for the distribution of narcotics. All was quiet again. . Next time I hire any workers or contractor's employees, there'll be a "shirts-off" inspection for black prison tattoos, at the very least.

But are day laborers, maybe picked up by a local Home Depot, maybe hired by a loser company like Labor Ready. That's the scheme here, anyway, the contractor - to save money hires unskilled laborers and expects them to complete jobs with no training or guidance. Be very careful who you employ to work on your house!
