Never Never Never sign a contract with ADT/Ranger American. They will blind you with low renewal fees however they don't tell you if you cancel you will be hit with hefty fees. I cancelled due to selling my home. I received a bill for over $600 dollars. You can imagine my surprise! When I called to inquire they said it was on the contract. I asked to have my contract faxed to me. They never did!!!

Please warn everyone about ADT and there deceptive rip-off practices!!!

I too was taken by Ranger American. Among all the complaints I have posted (see my post on Ranger American) I did not even mention the crooked nature of the sales rep since the other issues were larger. But still, I was not told many thing sand told things that proved to be untrue. Try reading the contract on the back of the paper -- its pink with light grey print font size 2 for a good reason. They do not want you to be able to read it so the saleman can tell you whatever he needs to so he can make the sale. The contract is virtually impossible to read without a magnifying glass and of course the paper is the lightest made and can easily be torn. All of this has been done intentionally - to screw you. Once again, check my complaint. I suggest you contact the state and federal Attorney general as I am doing. Also the FCC. I am confident there have bene hundreds if not thousands who have been scammed in some way or another by this company and I am starting a class-action lawsuit. Contact me if you want to join. But first, file a complaint with the FTC amd FCC. You can do it online if you want.

We aren't all crooks

I duly apoligize for your bad expeirence with one Ranger American sales rep, but that was one rep. At least here in phoenix, we are trained to explain the three year contract with every person we sign, and the terms of cancellation. Second thing that rep did totally wrong is he should have left you with your copies of the contract the day you signed it. Everything is done on carbon copies, and our customers get everything they need right then and there. I apologize again, but you are a minority. Most of our customers are very satisfied with our service, i personally look to it, and i know that all the sales reps on my team are the same. Now, i do understand that occasionally a rep will be more interested in hitting their monthly bonus more than anything else, and i know i've had slimey sales managers at other companies, yeah, things happen, but Ranger American is a good company, ADT is a good company, but people are people.

Jason is right with what he is saying. Reason is that Ranger "sells" the contract to ADT and gets paid for each contract. If the customer stops paying, ADT does a charge-back to Ranger and they will be out that money and they don't want to lose money. Dealing with ADT directly is better. If you plan on being with them (ranger) throughout the 3 year contract then you're ok because usually Ranger practically "gives" away their equipment versus ADT sells their equipment at much higher prices so you do save some money there. I think all security companies are crooks - we just happen to need security in our homes and need them.

Ranger American is not ADT. They are able to get monitoring by any company they want. They are an "ADT Dealer" means able to have you monitored by us. If, and many have, had originally spoke with ADT, then thought since a dealer was cheaper went with them, this is a case of you get what you pay for, and cheaper upfront may not be cheaper in the long run. With ADT Dealers, if you cancel before your contract, you have generally a 100% ETP of the monthy monitoring charge for the remainder of the time. IF you deal directly with ADT, we allow you to transfer, or the new homeowner to takeover, and worst case scenerio you can buy out of the agreement. At 1 year and 1 day is $200, and 2 years and 1 day $100. Again thats if you don't transfer or have the new homeowner take over. But again your problem has nothing to do with ADT, its Ranger American.

As much as I think ADT is the worse alarm company on the face of the earth. A Tyco company, with Dennis what'shisface facing 30 years. Did you sign a contract with them? Did you read what you were signing? Did you ask for a copy of the contract? A simple letter from your attorney requesting a copy of the contract should do the trick. At least you'll know what you signed.
