Advantage America Continuous calling from 001-819 on My Cell Phone Fraudulent I had won a $12,500 grant Winter Park Florida
For the last month or so I have been getting a call on my cell phone from 001-819 but everytime I would answer no one was there. I even said to my boyfriend last night that I was about to call my wireless company and find out what it was.
A little after that, the call came and I answered it and this time it was a man who said his name was William. He gave me his ID# but I don't have it with me right now. He spoke very bad english and sounded like he was reading off of a paper.
I listened to him tell me that I had won a $12,500 grant, and I must have sounded like a b***h because I acted skeptical instead of excited. A few months ago something like this happened to my stepdad and they had to change their bank account. Luckily I assumed that this was the same thing.
I was listening to him to see if he would ask for my account information and when he did, I said that I wasn't comfortable giving that information out. He assured me that it was safe and secure and they wouldn't be able to take funds out of my account. He had told me that I would get a welcome package in the mail, so I asked him if I could wait until the welcome package came, you know, to see what it said. He repeated that it was safe to give him my account info.
Then I asked him if I could have a phone number to call him back, and he said that he was just a customer service rep, so he was not allowed to release that information. After that my boyfriend took the phone from me to try to talk to William, to no avail, so he hung up on him. My phone immediately started ringing again, but it was the same number so I didn't answer it.
I wanted to look up the company online first, and I'm glad I did because I found this site.
This proves that you should never ever give any information over the phone or to someone you don't know.
