Albertsons Grocery Store

2300 E. Tropicana, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119

As I walked into the store, I was immediately detained by a security guard (black female). I was carrying two bags that I brought with me from another store in the shopping center. The security guard told me that I could not go any further unless I relinquished my bags. Then she got in front of me, to physically prevent me from going any further into the store. She postured as if she was going to grab me when I tried to continue on.

I was so horrified at this security guards "Gestapo Tactics", which ultimately reflects on the stores management, I left the store in total disbelief and disgust.

I am a doctor. I was dressed in jeans and did look a little "scruffy". This supports another reason for this report.

No matter who enters this store (derelect or professional), management and their out of control security guard need a serious adjustment in their use of "Gestapo Tactics" on customers.

Walk into this store yourself, carrying several bags, wearing blue jeans and a tee shirt, looking kind of "scruffy" in the early evening, and see what happens. I guarantee. You will

receive the surprise of your life!

Correction in Report and Update

Correction: I reread my report. I put in the report that I am a doctor. I am not an MD. I am a Ph.D.  I should have not used the general title which is not clear or put it in the report.  I should have corrected this when I saw one of the responses. I apologize for the misleading title.

Update: The Albertsons location in this report closed down. They are still in town but that location went out of business.

Read my report on gestapo-like tactics at Piggly Wiggly ... it was a very similar situation in which store employees treated me extremely badly. It is too bad that this type of behavior is allowed to exist in the service industry, let alone a simple grocery store. We are forced to buy food as a means of sustenance (staying alive), so it is not like we could simply not shop at a store anymore. At least I can't, as Piggly Wiggly is the only grocery store in my entire town of Pony, Alabama. I am currently working on a task force to investigate and put a stop to behavior such as this. Hopefully we will see some results!! ~ Peter, newly-elected consumer advocate in Pony, Alabama

I have been in this store many times over the past 4 years and I've never experienced anything like this. I've gone in with bags from the ---- (bought jewlery and candles there before it closed) and from the italian deli and I've never been stopped. I think you got an overzealous rent a cop. I would have noted her name and reported her asap. I've noticed the customer service at this store is frequently lacking, so I guess it's no great surprised that this person has crap all for manners. They should have politely asked you to check your bags. I'm sorry you went through that, there is no excuse for rudeness no matter how you are dressed. Even though it's after the fact I think writing a letter to the management might be a good idea. Good luck, there are about 12 other grocery stores w/in 2 square miles of there. You don't need to be treated like that. sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome! I understand you being upset with how you were handeld but let me tell you a story that happend at the store where I work (note it is in ND and it is not an Albetson store) We had a gentelmen come in one day carrying a walmart bag ( walmart is now about 3 miles from our store) any ways this man went back to the meat department and put a family pack of stakes in that bag. I am not saying that this is what you were going to do, but I am stating this because there are people out there who do steal from grocery stores. Luckly one of our cashiers caught this thief at our store, but I an sure that is why your Albertson's doesn't allow bags in the store.

You did the right thing!

Even though your experience was bad, you did preceisely the right thing. Leave! This is just another example of LP wannabe cops and their little power trips. The facts are that, contrary to the signs you see in many stores, they do NOT have the "right" to search your bags. Period. However, they do have the right to deny service (assuming it's not based on gender, race, age, etc.) and that's what they did. Screw em. Think of the bright side. You make more in a year than LP Lucy will make in her lifetime. Go spend it somewhere else. And if you happen to be in private practice, send a letter to the general manager on your letterhead explaining why you're taking your business elsewhere. Good for you for defending your rights as an innocent consumer!
