This is a company that you don't even want to do business with. They are known as Altec Home Improvement of Toledo or Altec Better Living of Toledo, Ohio.

On Oct 27th 2003 we received a phone call at our home from Altec Better Living of Toledo soliciting sunrooms; we told them we were not in the market for one right now but they insisted to send someone out to show us what they had. OK. Here goes....

They sent a salesman out a week later, but he never showed nor did he call. My husband was irate since he took the day off of work. The second time they came out the salesman had a book of really nice rooms. We told him we wanted a dark tinted sunroom and he said no problem, yeah right. We consolidated one bill into the sunroom and off we went on the wildest ride of our lives.

The sunroom was promised to be done the third week of November 2003 before Thanksgiving, we called and they had so many excuses. Then they kept making promises in two weeks it will be done, that never happened.

We played around with this company until after New Years and then we called the B.B.B. to report them, we did look up the B.B.B. before we even went to use this company but their records were updating. This company has prior complaints.

They were very upset with us for calling the B.B.B. but they got out here and did the work. The first subcontractor they hired to build the deck that the sunroom is sitting on was a joke. Very poor workmanship, and sloppy sloppy sloppy. It had to be torn down and rebuilt.

The sunroom just was finished the end of Feb 2004 and there are still problems with it. For one, very very sloppy workmanship. This company never returns your calls. They put you off. All they want is your money. They telemarket so many people and then they cant deliver what they promise when they promise it, they dont even have enough men to do the job, they are hopping from one place to another and putting off jobs that were before others.

They aren't professional either. They all talk about each other to the customer. We had the salesman who no longer works for them calling us and threatening us that if he didn't get paid for this sunroom that he was going go put a lien on our home. We also had to have this company live up to what was on the contract and they had to pay an outside company to come in and tint the sunroom like they said it was going to be in the first place. Craftbilt doesn't make the sunrooms with dark tint but that is what we were promised.

The girls in the office get really irritated when you keep calling because you have constant problems with the workmanship on their sunrooms. I had to do all the cleanup on our front lawn. Altec did not come out like it was stated in the contract nor did they do any of the cleanup. Our front yard was a total disaster. There is still more to be cleaned up but there is snow covering the mess as of now.

We did get a check for 486.00 back for our inconvenience but that was not enough in our book. The roof is leaking. The guy who is supposed to be the best calker for the company said oh yeah, I forgot to caulk up there. I was going to come back in the Spring and fix it. Also the floor was leaking too, oops, he forgot to caulk that also. The top of our sunroom has such a sloppy caulk job you wouldn't believe your eyes but they say that is how it is supposed to look. My husband is going to have to recaulk the whole roof sometime in the summer which shouldnt be his job. But if you call the company and ask for someone different, they will only send out the installation manager Calvin, because that is his job.

We wish we never bought from these people, now we are stuck into a 20 year loan for a crappy job poorly done. They also tore thru the screens when they were putting up the doors and windows and we are still waiting on a new screen door and a new screened window. If it isn't here by March 12th, we are calling the B.B.B. again to get on to them.

This company are good at b-sing you when they are trying to get a sale to make sure if you do go with them, that you WANT everything in writing. Every little detail, but I am recommending that you go with someone else and make sure they give you references.

This company is a RIP OFF and they need to go back to school for more training on workmanship and how to be professional and not dog each other out, to cover up what they aren't getting paid to do.

unhappy with this whole situation from day one

I dont even know where to begin. The week of April 12th, to be exact it was on the 12th that Mike from Altec called my home and spoke with me (Cathy M) and he said the parts were in and he would be out himself with Calvin on the 23rd Friday to fix all the problems that we have had with out sunroom. It is leaking, the sophet is coming apart, the inside where the corners meet are not together and are popping out, the screens need to still be replaced due to their negligence, and some caulking still needs to be repaired to a neater state. Needless to say we waited till around 10.30 am Friday morning on the 23rd of April 2004 and then proceeded to call Altec Home Improvement of Toledo, I got the run around, and so did my husband..no call back..and as usual...nobody knew what was going on. We then called Tony from Craftbilt and he called them and then we got a call back from Mike saying that they didnt have the parts in that they needed to come out and fix our sunroom due to the fact that the owner ED ROCCO wasnt going to pay for them...but mind you....Mr Rocco has already been paid for the job which was a total of $26,808.00...so since Mr ROcco has his money he no longer feels he will stand behind his contractual agreement....therefore Ed when you read this..we have sought a lawyer and I myself personally have contacted all the television stations in Toledo for bad consumer business and the radio stations....YOU ARE WRONG..and you left me no other choice but to go the legal way..I know you have lawyers..but we are in the RIGHT..your WRONG......Key bank is also being notified on Monday morning..for any future business you may be doing with them..so they know what kind of company your running...THis sunroom was suppossed to be done and useable November of 03...we are at six months now..and you refuse to do anything..I am tired of your stories.....GET OUT HERE AND FIX THE JOB AND MAKE GOOD ON THE CONTRACT...WHICH YOU SIGNED....I AM ALSO SPREADING THE WORD FOR PEOPLE NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOUR COMPANY...SEVERAL HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE WORK YOUR GUYS HAVE DONE ON OUR SUNROOM..SO THAT IN ITSELF SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS....WE ARE NOT SATISFIED....I AM ALSO CALLING CRAFTBILT MONDAY MORNING AND SPEAKING WITH DEB STONE..AMONG OTHER CALLS PERTAINING TO YOUR COMPANY AND THE WAY YOU DO BUSINESS....AND YOUR WORK ETHICS...THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE HAS ALREADY BEEN NOTIFIED AS WELL AS THE B.B.B. AND ANY OTHER PLACE THAT WILL HELP US RESOLVE THIS ISSUE....YOU DONT EVEN DESERVE TO BE IN BUSINESS... WE WANT THIS SUNROOM REPAIRED CORRECTLY..NOT BY SOME GUYS WHO KNOW NOTHING OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING..AND YOU CAN TELL THAT BY THE WAY THIS ROOM WAS PUT UP..AND YOU KNOW THAT AS WELL AS I DO OR ANYONE ELSE WHO LOOKS AT THIS ROOM. We are really unhappy with this whole situation from day one and to think we are paying over 330 a month for a room we can not even use...

Spoke with the President of Altec Home Improvement Co

This is in response to my posting above here. I spoke with the president of Altec, Ed and he told me that they would not be out tomorrow (but would be out on March 30th and 31st to take the sunroom down and rebuild it back up. I did ask Mr Rocco for a reimbursement check for all the problems and troubles we have had since we started business with Altec. When the room is finally finished I will report on here exactly how it is and then my complaint will then be closed here, but that wont be until next Mon or Tues (depending on if nothing comes up with Altec to prevent them from coming out here). After I take this off the site next week Mr Rocco assured me that I would receive a check for all the problems that we have incurred during this time frame.
