American Finance---Nick Johnson Offered a $3,000 loan, then wanted multiple charges Internet
I received an email regarding loan approval for $3,000 . They would only give details over the phone, not by email. They wanted "first month's payment" of $180, then said loan was being transferred, then call about a half hour later for fee of $250, then again for $300 in tax --I cut it off after hearing that. Payments are done using Green Dot moneypak.
I should have known since 'loan officers' have American names but clearly Indian accents. This wasted my tax refund. Is there any recourse?

No there is no recourse because these people are scammers. It is called the Advance Fee Loan Scam and you can read all about it at FTC(dot)gov. These scammers have you send them money in advance for a loan. You can determine it's a scam because they ask for money upfront for something (anything) before they will issue the loan. In your case: first months payment, loan transfer and tax. If you kept sending money they would keep coming up with additional items for you to pay. They frequently borrow the name of a legitimate company but use throw away phones and untraceable methods for you to send money. Those methods include Green Dot cards, Money Grams and Western Union. The names of the people are fake, the entire loan is fake. Doesn't matter what they say - it is only used to get you to send money.
Your money is gone. You can file a police report, but it won't help you to get your money back. Next time someone asks you to send money in order for you to get a loan - just say no. ALL ADVANCE FEE consumer loans are scams.
