I AM A LICENSED REALTOR IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA. ALL MORTGAGE COMPANIES LEGALLY HAVE TO PUT A NOTICE IN THE NEWSPAPER. THEY DO NOT DO SO UNTIL YOU ARE ATLEAST 3 MONTHS BEHIND. IF YOU LIVE IN TENNESSEE AND THE MORTGAGE COMPANY IS IN CALIFORNIA THEY DON'T KNOW IF YOU ARE STILL IN THE HOUSE OR NOT IF YOU DON'T RESPOND TO THEIR CALLS OR LETTERS. YOU CAN LOG ONTO ANY COUNTIES COURT DOCKETS ONLINE AND ALSO SEE WHO IS IN FORECLOSURE. JUST LIKE YOU CAN SEE YOUR NEIGHBORS SPEEDING TICKETS. ALL SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS LIST IT IN THE PAPER TOO. THAT'S HOW THEY SHOW THE PROPERTY IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE AND GIVE THE OWNERS 1 LAST CHANCE. ITS A STATE LAW. ITS NOT TO EMBARRESS ANYONE. A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE LOSING THEIR HOMES JUST MOVE OUT OF THE PROPERTY AND LEAVE IT VACANT. PUTTING IT IN THE NEWSPAPER IS A WAY OF LEGALLY GIVING THESE PEOPLE THE CHANCE TO SAVE THEIR HOME IF THEY WISH. YOU MAY NOT KNOW IT, BUT YOU CAN CATCH UP YOUR PAYMENTS AND PAY ANY LEGAL FEES UP UNTIL SHERIFF SALE CONFIRMATION (WHICH IS USUALLY 3-4 WEEKS AFTER THE SALE) AND KEEP YOUR HOME. MOST FORECLOSURES TAKE ANYWHERE FROM 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS BEFORE THEY ARE COMPLETED. IN THE MEANTIME THE MORTGAGE COMPANIES ARE PAYING TO HAVE THE HOUSES SECURED, WINTERIZED, MOWED, ETC. AND LOSING EVEN MORE MONEY THAN THEY ALREADY HAVE. SO LETS JUST GIVE 'EM A BREAK. THEY GAVE YOU A CHANCE BY LOANING YOU THE MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE. THINGS IN LIFE ARE NOT FREE. LETS ALL MAKE OUR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS OR CALL THEM TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS AND WE WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT OUR NAMES BEING IN THE NEWSPAPER.
