I used a "free AOL for XXX hours" CD I rcvd in the mail for around 2 hours. Of course I had to provide my credit card number to activate it. A few months later AOL began charging my card. When I called and pointed out I had only used a couple of hours they agreed to a refund. A month goes by and there they are on my statement again. Same thing the next month. Phone calls didn't work. Finally had to cancel the card.

I think (by reading a bunch of the other posts about AOL) that the only way to stop them from charging you, is to cancel your credit card. As long as you have an open credit line available to them, they will continue to take your money. I know it seems drastic, and most people don't like to change credit cards, but since you have been trying for 6 MONTHS to no avail...this is your only option. Cut them off. Then you will probably get phone calls from them requesting a new credit card number, since that one doesn't work. It would be fun to tell them to stick it, since you cancelled 6 MONTHS ago! You can kiss your money goodbye though.
