I booked a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines in July 2012.  At that time I also purchased Travel Protection Insurance from Berkely Travel.  Actually the NCL rep automatically included the insurance and billed us for it.  The cruise was scheduled for June 2013.  In March I was diagnosed with cancer.  At that same time we made our final cruise payment.  In May I was told by my oncologist that I could not go on the cruise because I had to have treatments.  We had to cancel the cruise.

I filed a claim to Berkely and they denied the claim saying the cancer is a pre-existing condition because we knew about it 60 days prior to our last payment in March.  We actually did not know the extent of the diagnosis and thought we could go on the cruise.  They did not care about that.  They talked to all my doctors and did everything they could to find a way to deny the claim.  With the logic they use for defining a pre existing condition, if someone has high blood pressure and ends up with a stroke they will deny the claim because the blood pressure caused the stroke.  I was told and believed that the travel insurance would cover anything that came up beyond our control that prevented us from going on the cruise.

Do not buy travel protection insurance through NCL or Berkely Travel.  They have no ethics.  It is all about selling as many policies as possible and deny all claims that they can get away with.  They will do all they can to deny your claim and they obviously do not care what kind off medical diagnosis you get.
