After viewing your web site I realized that I had paid for the replacement of a plastic intake manifold which Ford knew was faulty from the day the put it in but had not warned me about in time for me to save myself a lot of grief.

I contacted the dealer and spoke to Mike Cucchiara who appeased me by saying the Ford representative would be in on Thursday and he would talk with him about my issue. I received a call back from Mike werein he informed me that Ford said it would not give me a refund since my car has over 100,000. At the time of replacement it had approximately 101,000 miles.

I believe that regardless of the miles, Ford knew this was a problem they created in this car and that eventually it would give out. I maintain that should have contacted me and replaced this part at their cost.

When they know they builty a faulty car the limit of their liability should extend forever

Since Ford motors had been replacing intake manifolds in fleet vehicles at no charge they should have done the same for individual car owners. Since they knew they had built a car with a weak manifold design they should extent the warranty beyond normal warranty limits for this part and the labor that it cost to replace.

The class action suit?

It only applies to fleet vehicles...taxi's, rentals, and police cars. The consumer is SOL.

"Autoway Lincoln Mercury charged me for replacement of plastic in-take manifold and refused to give me a refund because my mileage is over 100,000 mil

Ford has a class action lawsuit against them for the defective intake manifold. I own a 1998 Mustang GT with the same manifold. Ford has agreed to settle the lawsuit with owners of cars that have this composit plastic intake manifold. You will need your reciept or your car as proof that you had the manifold changed. Ford Motor Co. has agreed to settle customer lawsuits over alleged defects in the intake manifolds of as many as two million vehicles. The settlement was filed in federal court in Oakland, Calif. Ford will pay owners of some Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Cars and Ford Crown Victorias at least $735 to reimburse them for repairs made because of faulty manifolds, which route air to an engine's cylinders. Ford will also extend the life of warranties of customers who haven't had manifold failures, according to the agreement. This could cost Ford additional money to replace manifolds in the future. Ford will also pay for notifying car owners about the settlement. The settlement is subject to court approval. The settlement covers 1996 through 2001 models of the Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car and Ford Crown Victoria, as well as certain Mercury Cougars, Ford Thunderbirds and Mustangs built before 2002. The manifold was made of plastic and they sometimes crack causing anti-freeze to leak out. Repairing the cracked cost manifold may have cost owners $800 to $1200. As part of the settlement, Ford has agreed to reimburse the full cost of the repair to owners with receipts. Owners without receipts who can prove that the repair was made will be entitled to $735. Ford will also extend the warranty for those manifolds to seven years. If everyone potentially affected by the problem files a claim, the settlement could cost ford $375 million. The settlement is the result of a class action lawsuit brought by the law firm Cunningham, Bounds, Yance, Floor Crowder & Brown in Mobile Alabama. The agreement will not be finalized until September 30. If there are no problems or changes, owners could receive refunds by late fall.

You had more than 100K miles on it. The factory warranty was about 36K. Just so everyone is clear about this, how long do you think the factory should be held responsible for everything in life? You got roughly 3 times the warranted life out of it. When the engine finally blows up at 200K miles, is Ford supposed to replace that too?The transmission will go out around 150K. Is Ford supposed to do that for free? Warranties are made for a reason. It is completely UNREASONABLE to expect the manufacturer to be responsible for something that is out of date, and/or miles. Some people will say I am being mean again and running down someone in this thread. This actually goes back to my "stupid vs needy" analogies.
