I decided to attend University of Phoenix and would not sign up prior to having my existing credits evaluated. I wanted to know where I stood before making the commitment. I am retired military and have taken classroom courses from three different major universities.

I faxed in my transcripts which totalled 34 credits, and the "unofficial" credit evaluation was 21 credits. The enrollment counselor told me "Once your military credits come in, if you have enough, we'll roll you righ into the bachelor degree program." I was told "21" credits was the minimum I would have. The "Official" evaluation can only be provided AFTER you have enrolled and paid for your classes. It also takes three (3) weeks after your enrollment date.

I signed up, paid over two thousand dollars (cash student) for the first two "mandatory" classes, thinking it wouldn't be a waste of money. Week three or four rolls around, and I check my transfer credits. Out of an evaluated 84 total credits (including military), they officially granted me 17 credits.

To recap: Prior to enrolling it was 21 credits granted out of 34. After enrolling, the official count was 17 credits granted out of 84. Yes, I have a hardcopy of the pre-evaluation - It says 21 credits, and that was before they even LOOKED at my military stuff. 17 might as well be 15 credits. That's two classes they screwed me out of, and to what end? I'm cutting my losses after finishing these two classes up. I won't continue with Axia based on principle.

In regard to the classes, I make straight A's, so I put a lot of effort into the assignments. I think the classes are challenging. One frustration I have is that one of my instructors is "picking apart my perfect papers" and is deducting anything she can. It must have been something I said in my bio. Maybe her ex-husband was military or something. I'll still get an A - it's just going to be significantly harder. Some of the assignments are hard to interprete, but you can ask the instructor for clarification.

If you have transfer credits, I WOULD NOT TRUST THEM AT THEIR WORD, even if you have a hardcopy. The credit pre-evaluation is total BS. Don't fall for it.

There is no rebuttal for this. I'm sure UofP has people working these websites to rebut these bad experiences, but it is what it is. They lied to me. They are the most military unfriendly bunch I have ever seen. They won't explain the descrepancy. All I'm saying is that if you have transfer credits coming in, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They will screw you.

Do not believe anything anyone posts in response to this. Fact: They promised me 21 minimum out of 34. I got 17 out of 84.

Update to bait and switch credit transfers

Six weeks has passed and my academic advisor has been promoted. I have just finished the coursework and I will "A" in both classes. My academic counselor and enrollment counselor can not explain the transfer credit descrepancy. I was promised a minimum of 21 out of 34 period. Once my Navy credits came in, I was suppose to get more. They have not wavered on the official 17 credits out of an evaluated 84 credits. This college is VERY MILTARY UNFRIENDLY. They only gave me "2" credits out of a total of 54 military credits. They gave me 15 credits out of a possible 30 from my university transcripts. I checked with the University of Phoenix, and they said it looks like I might have a total of 30 possible transfer credits, but I would have to become a student - unbelievable. One more fact: the person who did my unoffical evaluation also did my official evaluation. This was a flagrant bait and switch. I specifically told the enrollment counselor I would not sign up before knowing what my transfer credits were. I Hope I can save just one student the trouble of what I just went through. Do not trust anyone. Make sure you get an official credit transfer evaluation. These people lied to me. There was no misunderstanding as I have a hardcopy.
