Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My husband and I joined a 30 days free trial membership in January. At that time, the sales man told us that we can cancel the membership anytime during the 30 days, and at the end of the 30-day period, we can choose either month by month or by year. Since we bought a house and the builder of the house offer a year's free membership of their club, we went to the club and canceled the Bally membership at the beginning of Feb. The manager there told us it was done and the membership was canceled. They were lying! Yesterday, we found we were charged $63.90 on my credit card. I called them and they asked us to call the customer center(It's the first time we have ever heard they have a customer center). The woman in the customer center told me that the membership is still active and we cannot cancel it, because the contract is a 3 year contract and the reason of the cancelation is not eligible, and whatever the sales man said to us has nothing to do with them. (Isn't this ridiculous???) They are playing a trick to fraud the consumers. I would appreciate if anybody can tell me what I can do to terminate the contract.

Read the contract you signed.

Read the contract you signed. The "free" period is only 7 days ... NOT 30 days. Regardless of what the salesperson verbally told you, you are bound by the terms and conditions of your WRITTEN contract. Next time, before you sign something, may I suggest you READ what you are agreeing to. Furthermore, there is no need to make up stories to blame others for your own mistakes resulting from not reading a contract.

#3UPDATE EX-employee responds

Hi I am a former BTF employee and got caught up in the lies and dishonesty. I do know that if you move more that a 25 or 50 mile radius from any club you can cancel your membership without penalty. You don't ness. have to move you can just do a little cutting and pasting on a utility bill or credit card bill. Create a new lable with an address that is not near a BTF tape it over the address on you CC bill photocopy it and and send it in to the customer service center. You do need 2 things verifing your new address. This will allow you to get out of you membership and stay at your home. I know it is a little dishonest but hey if they would have been honest with you to begin with you wouldn't be in this situation.
