If you signed a month-to-month contract with no penalty for cancellation, then you are not responsible for additional payments and have nothing to worry about. If, however, you were so excited to be joining the gym that you signed a three-year contract without reading it in full, perhaps taking the salesman's verbal word at face value, then you are responsible for what you signed and are out of luck. When entering into any contractual agreement, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS request a copy of said contract before leaving the premises. Not only will this serve as valuable information later on, as contracts contain important details such as club policies, cancellation requirements, etc., but also serve as a reminder of what you originally agreed to. Even though you signed up for membership and left without a copy in hand, keep in mind that the club will eventually have to produce a copy of your contract for you, especially if they intend to prove you wrong. After all, they can't do that without the actual signed contract in hand.
