This subject hits a tough spot with me! I sell karaoke CDGs online. My listings specifically say "KARAOKE CDGs" in several places. There isn't one place you can't find "karaoke" on my eBay listings and I even link each to a QandA page that goes as far to explain karaoke CDGs and how they are made and what they are for (duh). Do you know I STILL get people who buy them, receive them, open them, then demand that I take them back because "this is nothing but instrumental music" or in one case, as their are back up vocals in the karaoke music, I got "the music isn't so and so and whoever is singing their music sounds nothing like her and don't even sing the whole songs". Yes, I laugh hysterically. I tell them that not even Walmart or Best Buy will take back CDs or DVDs once opened and they tend to always argue "yes they do" and I reply "yes, but only for the SAME ONE" if the one is damaged. The fact that this idiot would take this back and thrown a tantrum like a big baby to someone who had nothing to do with it makes me laugh as I'm sure it said "karaoke" on it and like some others I know is simply too stupid to know what "karaoke" means, but I'm sure didn't bother to ask either. I'm glad sometimes I sell them online as I may have felt the need to slap the face of someone who jumped me for their own stupidity. Your suggestion is READ BEFORE BUYING and ASK IF NOT SURE. It truly is that simple. If you made a mistake, my other suggestion is to give it to someone for a Christmas gift!

ALL retailers who sell music CD's, software or DVD's have restrictions on consumers ability to return or exchange those items which are opened. That restriction typically is: Exchange for exact same item only. Why? Copyright laws. With the CD/DVD burners that are out there, a person could purchase a CD/DVD, take it home, burn a copy, and then return the original for a refund. THAT is copyright infringement. Therefore, and keep this in mind when buying CD's; "Once you break that seal, it's yours to keep." Another responder indicated that they found only one CD that matched your description and it was a Karaoke CD. If that was the case, you should have known it was going to be instrumental only and intended to be played in Karaoke machines. NOT the original songs. Getting mad at cashiers when you don't get your way is immature and you made yourself look like a fool. Maybe you didn't know about Copyright laws, maybe you didn't know what Karaoke meant. I can only guess at this because I don't know you. But I DO know THIS...you were NOT ripped off. ALL consumers have this restriction. Not just you. So now you know...and knowing is half the battle!

He was upset that they wouldn't take it back because it had been opened. (As is with ALL CDs, DVDs, etc. because the store has no way of knowing if they have been copied onto a computer.) Had they shown him that it said karaoke, on the box, it more than likely would have caused him to throw them in the cashier's face, instead of on the floor. (I've been there before, it not fun.)

Making fun of customers behind their back is what keeps the cashiers from jumping over the counter and choking the living s#it out of these idiots. And one more thing Deb, HAVE A NICE DAY.

The only thing he should be upset at is himself for not reading the product carefully. And pointing things out in a respectful manner, while reasonable, almost never works. Customers have the tendancy to think anything said to them (mainly, what they don't want to hear) is a sign of disrespect and that the mistakes they made are irrelevant.

..instead of trying to resolve a problem with customers like Joe before he has to get upset. Maybe if they would have shown him he large letters on the merchandise in a respectful manner it would not have to go this far. But maybe it would be a boring day for the employees.

rest assured, cashiers, techs and everyone that works there, laughs at jerks like you for making scenes in the store when it's your fault. They have great products but don't worry, they aren't losing any money from you!

I did a Google Search and even went through Best Buy's site and found one CD set that fits your description. It is for Karaoke machines, therefore it will only have music on it. This was probably the set you bought. I would assume the word Karaoke is printed in large letters on the front as the picture online shows. This does not appear to be any ripoff at all, but rather a mistake on your part. Getting mad at the cashier does nothing for you, but does make you look like an a*s. She makes minimum wage and has to put up with people yelling at her because of their own stupidity. You're a peach.
