I purchased a sunroom and deck to be build over my existing deck in February 2008 from Better Living of Des Moines. I paid in full with a check upon agreement at that time. I paid for a 4 season sunroom with carpet and a deck constructed of high-quality composite wood to withstand extreme weather conditions in Central Iowa. I was told that construction on the project would begin in late April 2008 and take approximately 1 week to complete. After several delays, the project did not start until mid-June 2008. The sunroom took several weeks to complete including many weeks that went by and no work was done. I had to make several calls to get somebody to come back and complete the sunroom over the course of 7 weeks. Carpet was not installed and was told that the price did not include carpet.

The attached deck was very poor quality wood that looks like an unprofessional job with nails sticking out and wood splinters. The wood got several cracks within a week. I brought this to their attention as well. I was told that the wood was a mistake, they are not sure why that wood was used in the construction of my deck and that they would bring some samples. I chose a sample and I was told the deck would be reconstructed with a few days. It has been 4 weeks since then. I've made numerous calls to get this resolved to get the deck rebuilt. I was told that they are in Cedar Rapids doing a FEMA project and they don't know when they will be done.

It is now early September. I finally have my sunroom, but the deck is horrible and have no updates to when it will be done. I paid in full in February 2008 for a project that I hoped I could enjoy that summer. My summer consisted of months of construction on a project that should have taken 1 week. Not only have my at-home summer plans been interrupted, I feel taken advantage of. They are not returning my calls. If I do reach someone, I get empty promises of a completion date that are never kept. I have filed a BBB report against this company and researching small claims court.
