Upon reading the complaint my first thought was "Wow, if you can't get along with the Gaffneys, you've got much bigger problems." We've been renting from them for two years and can honestly say they are the nicest, most generous and helpful landlords we've ever had. We are grateful to have them not just as landlords, but as neighbors. Reading such a vicious complaint made me want to jump to their defense immediately.
When we had trouble making a payment, they were flexible and accomodating and worked with us to find solution. When they had to do repairs, they offered us the use of their own home for a few days, and compensated us for the "inconvenience" with some nice wine. They bend over backwards to help their tenants and make them feel comfortable.
I just don't understand how anyone could have anything bad to say about the Gaffneys. Complaining that someone is "old", calling him "Yosemite Sam" and bringing up his other affiliations is completely beside the point, and says way more about the person complaining than it does about Bill. If this were a legitimate complaint there would be no need to resort to name calling and personal attacks.
Furthermore, I cannot understand why anyone would stay for three years if that's how they felt. Would you renew a lease twice if you were terrified, anguished, distressed and felt the place was a living nightmare? We certainly wouldn't. We can't know what prompted the complaint, but we're pretty sure it is a gross misrepresentation of the facts. For all these reasons we find it hard to take this complaint seriously, and urge you to give the Gaffneys a chance and get to know them yourself before believing this ridiculous complaint.

Defenseof report #954356
We came home from a dinner party to find our apartment engulfed in smoke. Mike and Sarah had
built a fire in a brassier on their wooden deck, ten feet below our wooden deck.
I barged into their apartment, without knocking, and yelled at them to douse the fire.
They were embarrased to be yelled at in front of their guests. We then evicted them.
They also had an eighteen year old cat who became incontinent and damaged the carpeting
Hence, they had to replace carpeting
