Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I got a call tonight from a Camco Rep, regarding a legitimate credit card I used 14 years ago. Oddly enough, I actually fell for this same scam last summer and settled on the credit card, so it was completely paid off and the account closed.

The Camco rep said they had no record of this. He told me that if I agreed to make payments, they would settle for 75% less than the entire amount, but that I needed to act before the end of the month- 2 days. He said if I was able to prove the account had already been settled, they would not post my checks. I gave him the routing number.

I'm desperately searching for a record of the payment I made last summer. I've already called the previous company to whom I made the payment; they said they have NO records of payment and they acknowleged that the debt was sold. What can I do? I've agreed to pay and given them my routing number. They said they've filed a claim against me in my county. Help!

they can get around the fdcpa

well jack, I agree with everything you said except the reason they keep an office in jamaica. It is not so they can get around the fdcpa. All of their employees when collecting in the USA have to abide by the fdcpa whether they are out of country or not. This holds especially true when they are home based out of the states. The real reason they have a jamaica office is that is where their main bank account is. You see, in a class action lawsuit a company can be sued for 1% of their worth. By funneling money out of the country they hide it and their true value so when they are sued(pretty much every day) and if they lost a class action the victims would get far less than they are entitled to.

DO NOT BE FOOLED, If this company is ever calling you it is because they KNOW THEY CAN NOT LEGALLY COLLECT ON THE DEBT.

I am a former employee of this scandalis company. If this company is ever calling you it is because they KNOW THEY CAN NOT LEGALLY COLLECT ON THE DEBT. The only reason why they collect on debt that is so old is because they buy it for 1/10 of a cent on the dollar. EVERYTHING they collect on is past the statue of limiations, EVERYTHING. This company also has office in Jamica and other countries as well. This is so they don't have to abid by all the regulations the FDCPA...FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRATICES ACT....(to know more about these visit www.FDCPA.COM. Also, NEVER GIVE ANY OF YOUR BANKING INORMATION TO THEM EITHER. They will constantly try to re-deposit your check. BEWARE OF CAMCO.
