I received a letter from these A**'s in a name I have not had for 10 years.

For a debt which they can not tell me the date of or what it was I supposedly "bought". I asked for proof of the debt and was told they did not have that and I could not get it.

When she realized that I was not buying into her BS she tried to get personal with insults and veiled threats,

The real kicker is that the supposed debt balance was $2000. but they have a bal due of $6618.18 (late fee's they said) This was supposed to be before 1990!

Good v Bad Debt Collectors- CAMCO is BAD

#2Consumer Comment

Sun, August 03, 2003

I was unemployed for about 2 years in the early 90's and couldn't pay my bills. When I found employment and was once again able to pay, I went back to ALL of my creditors and paid them. It took a couple years but I paid them. During the unemployment phase, I became very familiar with debt collectors. Most were not only professional but as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. Not one was nasty, condescending, badgering, dishonest or threatening in any way, shape or form. CAMCO is a scam, plain and simple. They are trying to collect on a bill that was paid in my case. They are apparently trying to collect on non-existent debts in other cases. These people are crooks, Vince. There is no way around that fact.

Quoting Vince from Camco....

What if it was your money? would you just give up on 2,000.00$. NO! If you said yes then well you are really in the dark or just need and excuse. I DON'T PITY NOT ONE OF YOU PEOPLE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The above was a quote by Vince, the collection agent from CAMCO in this thread. He asked a valid question and as a consumer I would like to answer it. If I was out the money and I was the creditor who originally loaned the money, I would pursue the debtor within the parameters of the law. I would take all means necessary to obtain the debt provided it was legal. By law, after 180 days, I would write the debt off, but I would still retain possession of the debt. In other words, I would not sell the debt to another collection agency. Because as a creditor, once I do that, I am out of my money forever, and I won't ever have a chance to get any of it back again, because as a creditor once I sold the debt, I know I have voluntarily revoked my right and my claim to it. Now I would have the option of assigning a collection company and getting some of it back but if I took the step of charging it off and selling it, obviously I don't expect to get it back again. In real life, this scenario sounds crazy doesn't it. Yet, these creditors do it all the time because they are a business and a certain percentage of bad debt no matter how good the company is is inevitable and they figure on it. They call it business. They don't expect to recieve monies from the bad debt and by law, they cannot recieve monies from it even if years later, the consumer has finally got back on their feet and can pay it. Now, from the speculator (CAMCO's) point of view. I am buying up old, outdated, unenforceable debts. Why in the world would a company do that? For the morality of it? Do they honestly feel that they are some sort of avenging angel who will track down the deadbeats and non-payers because they are the good guy? If they really cared about the morality of their mission, why not buy the outstanding loan from the original creditor at the cost of that loan so that you are reimbursing the creditor in full for his lost and then try and collect that loan from the consumer in its entirety with your interest and fees attached to it? No, instead, you take advantage of the creditors and the consumers misfortune in this bad business deal and you buy it for pennies on the dollars. You buy a $10,000 loan for fifty to a hundred bucks. You have no intention of getting the poor creditor his money. No. You see an opportunity for yourself to scavenge the creditor and the consumer. You then lie, manipulate, guilt and bully the consumer into a settlement with you. After she has settled and made the payments, you then just sell the remaining portion of the old debt that is still owed on it to another scavenger like yourself. So basically, you take advantage of a consumers bad decision, or a misfortune in his/her life and you and your ilk then hound him/her into credit hell all over again. When the consumer gets wise and realizes that if he/she pays one cent to you, then he/she starts the clock all over again and it is credit hell again with lawsuits all over again, then you scream morality! For the average consumer who loses a job and defaults on the bills, it takes on the average between four to seven years for the consumer to get themselves back again into a similar paying job that he/she had before the bottom fell on them. It is especially longer if you were in a higher paying position before then. If you become sick and cannot work, it may never happen that you are in the position you once were. No, Vince, no contract was signed with you. You speculated and you lost. You are a gambler in the business world. No consumer is obligated to restart that clock and pay it all over again. The original creditor has basically said "We don't care anymore. Let's move on."

I used to work for a collection agency that attempted to collect on various forms of bad debt, from retail credit cards, catalog merchandisers and credit card companies. Your response is totally BOGUS! You are NOT doing a "wonderful thing" by helping innocent people get out of debt! Because the debts you are coercing people to pay are total B.S.! They don't exist and if they did, they are past the statute of limitations and have been LEGALLY written off by the originating creditor! I'm not saying this is the best way to handle these types of situations, but people make mistakes (particularly when they are younger -- and these debts seem to average more than 10 years ago) or get sucked into credit scams/offers/promotions -- without realizing what they've gotten into! Quit judging people and trying to justify your unethical actions! The company you are working for is fraudulent and being investigated and will be SUED -- as more of us are speaking out! Beware you little s@#t! People will be informed and CAMCO will be out of business...period! Signed, A "Reformed" Bad Debtor -- I'm not afraid to admit it, but I paid my dues -- LEGITIMATELY! Get a SOUL, man and find an ethical, respectable line of work!

Your company does not break the law. Why are there 2 class actions against you? Why do you have hundreds of BBB and attorney general complaints? Why have hundreds of people come to our forum for help? Are they all lying? I have seen your letters telling people if they pay you will not put on their credit reports. That is illegal. I have tapes of your employees lying. You do know most states are 1 party consent states right? This means we can and do tape you. I am not a lawyer. I have never had an account with you although I wish I had. I VOLUNTEER my time because what you and your cronies do is illegal, immoral, and degrading to people. I just helped a lady stop payment to your company. She is single, on disability, and gets barely $250 a month and you harrassed her and called her 10 times a day. Now she owes nothing and your company closed the account. You keep on with the illegal stuff. nobody in their right mind will believe your company follows the law. If you are actually sincere about nobody breaking the law in your company then I feel sorry for you as the wool has been pulled over your eyes. There WILL come a time when the FTC has enough complaints and they will nail your company hardcore and your little boss who is sitting pretty in sunny isles, florida will find himself out of a company and a whole lot of money.

In regaurd to the complaits on camco. Do you really think that all those things really happen! If you do Scott your crazy. The phone calls we make are monitored. If you break the law in any way your fired within ten minutes. The employee that you have, that is a joke too. Do you know how many people can't do this job. Lots of people try , but just can't do it.The job pays pretty good, so your employee could be a person that couldn't collect money and just needs some before we start calling him/her.You must be a lawyer to help so many people? Why would you go to all the trouble unless you had an account with us. How else would you know every thing on us. People who don't have a account with us shouldn't know us or have ever heard of us. Unless your a lawyer? Then it might be possible. Well you can try to bring my company down but, I feel quite safe despite your heroic efforts. have a good one, baaa

You have 2 class action suits against you in 5 states. You are being investigated by the illinois attorney general with over 100 complaints. It is over with your company. You harrass children collection on BK debts which is a crime, impersonate law officers, file and receive default judgements on people who have long moved, drained bank accounts, and on and on. I have helped over 300 people in the last 3 months get rid of scum like you and I will continue until the day I die or your company collapses.

We are a growing group of people who will help take down your company. You people are criminals and soon you will be in for another surprise as the fdcpa allows us to go after individual collectors. in the next 6 months we will be filing against you and your cronies in addition to your scam company.

Do not give me your morality garbage as you buy these debts for under a penny a dollar and abuse single mothers and others. Keep up your garbage because I have no sympathy for you. Oh, we have an ex employee in our group also who will be testifying how your bosses tell you to break the laws because it pays more. It is over. Flee while you can.

Let's start this off on a good note. I work their and you might even be complaining about me. God knows that some of you know my name by heart and hang up on me when I call you. We just might be rude, but think about what we do all day.

We call people like you to see if you want to settle a account that you have thought you got away with and now just think that you don't have to pay for the car, loan, or credit card that you took thousands of dollars out from and then told the creditor to go get bent .

What if it was your money? would you just give up on 2,000.00$. NO! If you said yes then well you are really in the dark or just need and excuse. I DON'T PITY NOT ONE OF YOU PEOPLE.

Their are really good people that when I call them they say yes I remember that . Then they get a really good settlement. The problem is the people that lie to us constantly. You all know who you are . The one where I have to lie to get you to admit to the d**n bill then tell me to go to hell anyway.

This company is the worst CA in the united states. they constantly do this. However, you have rights. I would suggest coming to cardreport.com and clicking on the discussion forum. Tell us what they are doing and we can help you out. We do this on a volunteer basis so we ask for nothing. There are also 2 class actions against Camco right now. We will type you up a letter, email it to you and even fax it if you wish. I would also suggest filing a complaint with the ftc.gov, bbb, and the illinois and delaware attorney generals. To get around licensing they have pulled a few fast ones and registered out of delaware.
