Sun, February 03, 2008
I have been in the Mobile home business since returning from Viet Nam, fourty years ago. Own my own business from 1971-1994. Then I went to work for Oakwood Homes as a manager of the Sacramento office. (NOT AN OWNER, NOT AN OFFICERS) (A SALES PERSON AND MANAGER OF ONE OF FIVE HUNDRED STORES) The company than closed the office and asked me to move to Phoneix, AZ. Two years later, they decided to open up in Sacramento again, and I moved back to Sacramento where my wife and family had remained. I had a district manager, a reginoal manager, a vice president and a president and the CEO. My job was to sell Mobile Homes and not to be concerned about any other operations of the company. The company went into bankrukcy and the assets taking over by Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway. I was a salesperson/manager and my authority was very limited. I work for a Bekshire Hathawys company called Clayton Homes and Warren Buffett entering the mobile home business is the best thing that could of happin to the mobile home industry. Please remove my name from the ripoff reports.

After reading many of these reports on Oakwood I must say I am scared. I relate to most every situation, no one responda when you need to have something repaired. Our carpets are coming up, doors are falling off, they left the screws for us to put the vents in. I didn't have the original paperwork, and asked my daughter to look at our file when she worked there, it was shocking, I had forgotten that we had ordered, and are now paying for items we never received in the home. She quit for the kind of tactics they used and the treatment of their employee's.(She didn't work there when I bought). Now, this is what is scaring me, since we moved in a little over three years ago I have become sick, off and on at first, subtle things, flu like symptoms and then gradually it became worse, I was rushed into the hospital one night when I trouble breathing. Then my doctor said I had a lung disease, I was freaked out at first but went on the inhaler. But, then it went away, and came back, so on and so forth. I just had an operation this past February, which at first was thought to be cancer in my uterus, it was not thankfully, but I did find out before the operation I didn't have Emphasema (spelling?). I have been in and out of doctor's offices and now the hospital ever since we moved in. My husband thought it was the glue in the carpets and he too was having some flu like symptoms. I know that this company doesn't care a wit about the customer, they take the money and run. Whenever we need something they are not available to help, but let a payment go past the first (which on the slips it says one has a 16 day grace period) they say no, but it is there, and boy they are hounding you everyday, not caring about anything. I have been so afraid to say anything, for we used our land in the package as part of the down payment and the fear of lose is great. But, they are horrible horrible people to allow this to go on. Thankfully my husband has construction ability for we have almost completely re-done the house on the outside, and now some on the inside. Phyllis I'm so sorry for your troubles and hope that you will find a resolve for I had the same response when I told them that I would get an attorney. I wonder how many other people have become ill that have bought from Oakwood and other manufactured homes? Scary.
