Chemisco United Industries Corporation Weed and Grass Killer Concentrate St. Louis Missouri
I recently purchased "Eliminator Weed and Grass Killer" in the 64 oz container of concentrate that supposedly makes 43 gallons of weed killer spray at the weaker spray concentration. I used it at the higher concentration for more effective weed control, but after using it twice and following more concentrated mixing directions, it did little to eliminate the weeds that were sprayed.
I noticed that I still had some old "Weed and Grass Killer" that was premixed in a gallon spray container which had always worked well. It's brand name was "Real Kill" but was still produced by United Industries Corp., Inc. I couldn't understand why the newer concentrate weed killer did not work and the old pre-mixed one did.
I checked the active ingredients and found that they were the same. The old-premixed container was listed as having 1.92% of the active ingredient Glyphosphate, the same as the container of concentrate.
So, I checked the amount of active ingredient in the premix as 1.92% x 128 oz or 2.46 oz weed killer per gallon.
The instructions for the concentrate product says to use 2.5 oz per gallon of water for the stronger weed spray. The concentrate is listed to have 41% Glyphosphate, so 2.5 oz at 41% yields 1.025 oz, or 2.4 times less that the pre-mixed product. So, to get the same effective spray, the amount of concentrate has to be 2.5 oz x 2.4 = 6 oz per gallon.
At the recommended rate of 2.5 oz per gallon, the bottle of concentrate would make 25.6 gal of spray. At the rate equilivalent to the pre-mixed product, the bottle of concentrate would make only 10.6 gallons of spray,
No wonder it doesn't work. It seems that the industries have decided that quality products need not be available to the public any more. I've seen reports that insect sprays such as Rid-a Bug also are essentially worthless. I have used bug sprays that have absolutely no effect, i.e., a total waste of money.
A bit of history: Years ago, the "Real Kill" brand used to belong to the Cook Chemical Company that used to make "Cook Kill", a bug spray that would kill insects within 15 seconds of application. They produced excellent products. But, I can only assume that as big industries crush smaller ones with big money, the money-makers do what is necessary to dilute their products to almost non-effectiveness. And this product is made in U.S.A. I can't see how they can be proud of their products.
This truly is a sad state of affairs in this country.
