I see now that I am the victim of a scam.
In an effort to help a homeless person I advertised on my local Haddonfield Talks town newsgroup for someone who might need a helpful companion.
I received a reply from someone who offered a house and a business arrangement when I would assist their international business by cashing money orders mailed to me and using Western Union to send the cash to their local representatives in Canada. The emails said they would be arriving in the US in two weeks to show me the house.
Well, $4,000 worth of money orders made out to me arrived. I felt proud to be trusted and followed the instructions to Act Fast' and sent the money less my %5. I did and thought my prayers had been answered until I received a reply to my ad on Craigslist which did not show my email address.
The reply made my heart sink as it was almost identical to the one I received from the Haddonfield ad.
Most likely the money orders are fraudulent and I may be dunned or legally attacked for the money ($4,000 I do not have).
I realized that I could try scamming them and get them to send another batch of money orders that I could deposit and use to cover the first but, that's stupid because they are bogus in the first place, or get the law involved what's gonna happen? What should I do?
