I am an employee of a different chain of electronic stores and while Circuit City was a competitor of ours, I feel something should be pointed out.
While the service could have been a bit better from the store you were dealing with,
the main culprit in this case is actually Sony.
Our store constantly runs into problems with getting Sony product serviced.
The way the system works (or is SUPPOSED to work) is the store you are dealing with takes in your Camera.
They send it to the service/repair depot.
At this stage the store you are dealing with has little control over things except to keep hounding them on your behalf.
The service depot is not authorized by Sony to actually work on warranty items and has to send it on to Sony's own repair center.
(my guess is that Sony wants to make sure something is truly a warranty claim?)
Sony takes their own sweet time deciding on repairing or replacing, not informing the service center anything except a vague time frame.
In turn, this is all the service center can tell our store.
Which is all we are able to pass on to the customer.
Of course, we are on the front line for the customer to vent their frustration.
Believe me, we are just as frustrated.
in this particular case...
there was No where else better...
It would have been the same problem regardless of where you bought it.

It's a bit harsh to let everyone out there on the interwebz to say dont shop at any circuit city. anyhow, Laruen was pretty much the best CSA at that location. Once you send your camera away, it is out of the store's hands. It is STANDARD that items get replaced within 2 weeks. however, that is not always the deal. When you send your camera away, no matter at what electronic store you are at, most of the time, they will not call you on the status of the product. The manager of the store usually cannot know the exact date for when the prodct is to be repaired. However, we would only know if it got to that location or not same goes for the customer service associate that you were talking to. If you expected to just get another camera out of the store as a replacement right away, that's not going to happen...anywhere. The only way you would get a replacement is if the repair location gave authorization or not for the item...and then you would get sent a new one...or your old camera back that's fixed. Also, if you needed repair on anything, keep in mind that most of the items that were in CC had a 1 year manufacture's warranty on the item(which is free since it comes with the item). The Sales Floor Associates sell Protection Plans to help their own sales as well as the store's location sales goals. The protection plan does offer a semi-better deal though.

Circuit City Stores, BEWARE of Circuit City Advantage Protection Plan (False and Bad Service) Philadelphia Pennsylvania I called Circuit City today 15 Nov 2006 at 6:24 PM to ask about any information regarding the Claim No. H3384631 for the Sony DSC-P200 Digital Camera Repair. I talked to Rita who told me that my camera is not in the store yet. She also said that there is no any information that she could tell me. I asked her how long it will take the repair since the camera had one month already with the store for repair it. She told me that she had no idea about when I will know about my camera. I inquired about other phone number to follow up the claim but she only requested from me to call back again tomorrow. BEWARE OF CIRCUIT CITY!!! THINK TWICE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUY ANYTHING FROM CIRCUIT CITY AND AVOID YOURSELF A LOT OF HEADACHES. SIMPLY DO NOT DO IT!! SIMPLY GO AND BUY IT ANYWHERE ELSE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE AND SATISFACTION!!!

I talked to Rita who told me that my camera is not in the store yet. She also said that there is no any information that she could tell me. I asked her how long it will take the repair since the camera had one month already with the store for repair it. She told me that she had no idea about when I will know about my camera. I called Circuit City store today 15 Nov 2006 at 6:24 PM to ask again for the status of my Sony DSC-P200 Digital Camera repair and I talked to Rita to ask about the Claim Number H3384631 status. She told me that my camera is not yet in the store. I inquired how long it will take to get my camera repaired since it had a month already and she only replied saying that is not possible to tell me how long it will take. I insisted in getting other phone number to call to request any information and she only said that I need to call tomorrow. THINK TWICE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUY FROM CIRCUIT CITY AND SIMPLY DO NOT DO IT. GO ANYWHERE ELSE TO BUY WHAT YOU WANT!!!
