I had coupons that I got off line for a $20 eye exam and one that was buy 1 pair get 1 pair for free and $100 off the first pair.  Since my glasses are expensive due to my prescription I thought this a great deal.  The optician spent all of 8 minutes on my exam.  I thought this strange as I have worn glasses for 40 years and never spent less than a half hour.  I remarked that it was short and he said I just start from your current prescription and it cuts a lot of time off.  I have scar tissue on my retina so usually opticians spend time to get the script correct.

Next I went to pick out the frames.  I asked which ones were allowed with the coupon.  I was told anything in the store.  I picked out a pair and the girl told me the total price would be over $675.  She then explained that I would also have to pay about $150 more for the free ones as my prescription was not covered by the offer.  I said no way, I can not afford that.  I should have walked out at that point and just paid for the exam.  But she talked me into letting her make me a deal.  I finally chose a pair of squarish frames and we worked out a deal of $350 because I have to have thin line due to my prescription.

I paid $350 cash for the glasses.  A week later I was called that they were ready.  The glasses were over an inch thick on the outer edges.  I questioned why since i paid $100 for the thin line lenses and was told it was due to the shape of the frames.  I advised that I have had glasses in that shape previously with thin line lenses and never had that happen.  I also remarked that things were blurry.  I was told I needed to adjust to the no line bifocal.  I ended up seeing the optician again and he said my script was correct.

I complained that I was not happy and would like my money back.  I was then shown on the receipt where it stated no refunds store credit only and a small sign to that effect on the wall, mostly hidden by a display case.

I remarked "Great, now I have a $350 pair if glasses I hate and no money to go elsewhere".  It was advised that if I picked a different shape of glasses that would take care of the thickness on the outer edge and possibly eliminate the blurriness as well.  I chose another pair.  As it is over an hour drive to their store, they arranged to have them mailed to me and I would call if I was not happy.

2 weeks later they called to say the glasses were ready for pick up.  I said you were supposed to mail them to me.  4 days later I got them and hate them.  The right lens is not correct, things are blurry and I know these are not the frames I chose as they are too small on my face and actually cause indents on my upper cheeks where the ear stems press into my skin.  I called and was basically told too bad.  No refund they could do no more for me because of the cost of my prescription, it was too costly for them to change my frames again.  So now I have glasses that hurt and I can not see clearly from.  I am advising every one I know to stay far away from these chain stores.
