Consolidated Readers/ Carol Kline & Paul Oconner, I was contacted by phone and was told I was being sued for magazines I purchased and didnt pay for back in 2002. I owed $702 and needed to pay today and if I didnt I was going to court. Detroit Michigan
I received a phone call today from a woman who said her name was carol Kline and she worked for Dept of Advice and legal services. She was in charge of my case because I was being sued by Consolidated Readers for magazines that I ordered from 2002. The amount that I owed is $702.00 if I let it go to court it will cost be $1100.00 is late fees and court costs. She said they have me taped verbally authorizing this sale and 2 signatures. Of course I dont remember any of this, other than I got almost the exact same phone call about a yr ago from a man named Paul Oconner but he was from the Attorney Clerks Office in Detroit. He told me almost all the same info. I was being sued by consolidated readers and owe $702.00 for magazines. He wanted to cut a deal for $204.00 and he will take care of the rest. Sadley I fell for it then and paid him the money ( mind you I dont remember anything about the magazines but I was scared and didnt want to go to court and owe over $2000 like he said) he also their was no time it had to be done today.
Back to the woman from today she also said I only had time to pay today, she said she spoke to judge and was willing to settle for $675.00. I asked to get documentation showing I owe this money, or a # to Consolidated Readers anything for proof. I was told by her they dont need to show proof, I owe the debt from 5 yrs ago I should have pd then. She also said not only to they my voice recorded but 2 signatures that they matched to to my records at the DMV.
I think to really get me hooked she said this company Consolidated Readers is ruthless on getting there money and the owner of the company is from Iraq. I then told I needed to talk to my husband and hung up with her and contacted a lawyer.
I guess Im glad I didnt fall for it this time. I'm still out the $200 from last yr but it could have been worse!
