My husband, myself and my children all went to Missouri for a leisure weekend of riding our dirt bikes and four wheelers. One of our concerns when we checked into the days inn was the security in the area, because we had a significant amount of money invested into our orv's, along with the other couple that were with us.

My husband and his friend went together to check into the days inn. He asked the lady at the desk how safe the area was and whether theft needed to be a concern of ours. She responded by saying that the area was completely safe and that things of that nature weren't a problem around there.

We still locked everything up as we would on any other occasion. We were there 2 nights... the first night we had no problems, although about 5:45am the next morning we woke up to find everything was gone.

We were devestated. As we were looking around we noticed a camera facing directly in the area where everything was located. We were so relieved that is until we went to the front desk. We were basically told that the camera was there for looks and that it actually wasn't hooked up.

We call the police, filed a report and were also informed by the officer that theft was actually very common in the area... in fact just a week or two before we were there, a truck was stolen from the same parking lot.

I do realize that days inn did not steal $20,000 worth of fourwheelers and dirt bikes but they sure did make it easy to get away with. I feel like it is false advertising to put cameras out that aren't even hooked up and i can guarantee that if the lady at the desk didn't lie to my husband he would have stayed up all night watching our stuff or at least rotated sleep with his

friend. I feel that we should be compensated one way or another.

I am Sorry about your loss. I am assuming you were down for the weekend or so for St.Joe Park, am I right? Truth is, that kind of theft usually doesn't happen because of people around here, it is due to people from out of town that come in to ride for the weekend, and steal other people's ATVs and then ride off into the sunset to wherever they are from, leaving no trail, and in the summer months, there are literally thousands of people with trailer loads of ATVs coming and going, and police have no way at all of knowing whether they are stolen or not. Did you have theft insurance on them? If you are going to travel with ATVs, you really need to invest in theft insurance. I also agree that they should have had their Security Cameras operational, but she was right to say that crime is actually pretty low around here, but ATVs are a target for out-of-towners due to the ease of escape and lack of trackable evidence, and next time, if you should choose to come back (Which I don't blame you if you don't) stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Maple Valley Center... Much better anyways. Also, where they chained to the Trailer and someone stole the trailer? or were they stolen off of the trailer? And actually, it isn't false advertising for fake security cameras, just stupid. Now, if they advertised security cameras and they were fake, THEN it would be false advertising...
