DirecTV has become famous for tacking on and charging for items they have told you they do not charge for. In my case, they tried to charge me for not returning the DVR box my daughter purchased for me...they claimed I "rented" it from them which is was hilarious since I had the sales receipt and all of the printed information and not once was "rent" or "lease" mentioned. Because I refused to return MY box to them, they tacked on an early cancellantion fee -- it wasn't, I had the paperwork for that as well and when I refused to pay it, the sent me to collections. Go to the Better Business Bureau website and get the addresses for the corporate DirecTV offices. Write a letter to your attorney General's office and the Attorney General's office for the state(s) where the DirecTV offices are located, copy the letter to the DirecTV offices and the Better Business Bureau (they won't help you, but give them the extra paperwork to deal with anyway). I did this and after my AG contacted them, the charge was gone from my credit report and I received a letter from DirecTV telling me the matter had been taken care of. Good luck.

I do not have Direct TV but, I am thinking about it. I read all the agreements and I know about the "lease charge" and the 18 month to two year (for HD) service. I would suggest in the future you READ all the agreements first and avoid the headaches of impulse buying. Charles
