I have been with Eastern Savings Bank for almost a year now. I was refinanced with them last year and after our house burned down 3 years prior --- and we fell into the toilet financially, we were in the process of foreclosure.

At the time, I was happy that I was able to get financed as my credit was less than perfect and also the fact that my husband and I rebuilt our house ourselves on the same property our burned house was.

We literally put our blood, sweat, and tears into it and it means more than just a roof over our heads. I even looked past the 13.43% interest as I understood the situation.

Now, I find myself again in foreclosure with Eastern Savings. Beginning in January, 2005, I have mailed payments and Western Unioned payments, only to have them returned. I was dumbfounded as the payments sent were over principle and interest AND escrow, but a little less than what they had wanted due to late fees, $70 short to be exact.

So, they returned it to me and when I contacted them about this, I was talked to like a dog! The woman I had been speaking with said that I needed to make another Western Union Payment for ALL of it and not a penny less or they'd return it again.

Well, $70 isn't a lot of money in light of the fact my regular payment on a good month is almost $1,400.00, however it just so happened I couldn't eek out any more money at that exact moment. I needed to wait another 4-5 days to when my husband received his monthly paycheck. She informed me that if I waited until then, they would require ANOTHER month added onto that with even more fees being due!

Now timing is everything and it so happened that I had other bills that were requiring payment at that time as well. This is an example of robbing Peter to pay Paul and unfortunately the story of my life since our house fire 3 years ago. If we could get over this hump of being behind, we wouldn't have a problem paying our monthly bills, even with the high interest.

I have just wanted to get my life back to normal financially and have contacted an agency to help me with this and to work on improving my credit. This is not helping to move forward in that direction.

The reason I found myself behind is the fact that when I closed on this mortgage, I was told by the title company, that it was a requirement that our monthly payments were to be automatically withdrawn on the 1st of each month out of our account. They did this for awhile as I expected but then evidently changed their minds about the auto deduction but never let me know this.

After a rather rude phone call from their collections people, I sent them the payment, along with a late fee as it late by the time I found this out. Being the time of the year this happened (holidays), it started a s****..
